Whatever next? It's all a bit much for a young T-Shirt to take in. This star-studded, high-flying, jet-setting existence is beginning to make me feel a bit giddy!! For goodness sake, I thought it was exciting when I was first unpacked in Fox Studios to meet Hugh Jackman, but now I'm in Australia's Capital Territory and meeting none other than former member of the hit rock group "Midnight Oil" turned Member of Parliament, Peter Garrett. And look how nicely he signed me :o))) Next I'm off out of Australia for the very first time... to... HONG KONG!!! Keep checking in because more exciting news is coming soon!!!... read more

Relaxed at River Heads for a couple of days then went to Maryborough to a Liesure/Camping show. Whilst at Maryborough we had a look at the old port area and the old buildings and museums. Maryborough is about 30 kms from the coast on the Mary River and was a major port in the 1800's. In the 1860 era there were only two ports which processed immigrants (legally anyway), being Sydney and Maryborough, so a lot of early Australian history in the Maryborough area. For the book reader, Maryborough was also the birthplace of the author of Mary Poppins, a statue is erected outside the building in the old port area where she was born. We then travelled to Gympie and stayed with my uncle Geoff/Marie for a couple of days and had a look at ... read more

It's been a while, hasn't it? Sorry for being so rubbish with this. We made to Canberra (the capital) this morning after entering our seventh state (one more to go) earlier in the day. First impressions of Canberra are pretty good although it's swarming with police. We've done so much since the last entry, it's hard to know where to begin. Some may already know that we've bought a van! We picked her up in Adelaide and despite a flat battery and the odd bit of overheating she's going well. She's an old girl (first registered in 1980) and in the hope that she lives as long as her namesake we have called her Helen (after Helen Daniels off of Neighbours). Speaking of Neighbours, we visited the famous Ramsay St, Lassiters complex (inc Bishop & Carpenter's ... read more

We wnjoyed a couple of wondeful days with Andy and Kathy. Did the tourist bit, went to Burrum Heads (lovely spot where the river meets the ocean), and had a nice lunch at a restaraunt on the water at Toogum. We all went on a whale watching cruise, the whales would come right up to the boats and put on an excellent display. A very enjoyable experience, well worth the money. Drove up to Bundaberg and had a look around. Went to Mon Repos which is the beach where the turtles come ashore to breed. The breeding season starts early November so if we are still here we will return for another look. We were lucky enough to photograph a PSM turtle stranded on the rocks. Andy and I went out in the boat for a ... read more

I can finally say I've been to all of Australia's states/territories! I spent this weekend in Canberra - which is in it's own state called the Australian Capital Territory. It's been the official capital of Australia since 1908 - although parliament has only sat there since 1927 (there were some delays in moving up from Melbourne thanks to the First World War) - are you getting the impression that I learned a lot during my 28 hours there? I took the 3.5 hour bus ride down from Sydney on Saturday morning - main highway the whole way there, so not a whole lot to see. I had wanted to get tickets for the Hop-on Hop-off tourist bus for the afternoon, but upon checking in at my YHA, I learned that they've cancelled the afternoon portion. I ... read more

Maree has handed this post over, so. She forgot to mention that we went beach fishing whilst at Woodgate National Park, no fish but Maree did manage to land a seagul. He was an angry little bugger after being dragged backwards thru the surf with a hook in his leg. We had to do a Steve Erwin and throw a towel over his head and sit on him (not really, we did push his head into the sand to stop him biting). He seemed ok when he hobbled off. The professional fishermen patrol the beaches for the mullet schools and net everything in the water, bit of a disaster really. We went to Buderim and stayed with Bruce and Jo for a night before heading off to Noosa. Noosa is lovely but full of tourists. All ... read more

AS Beza and I start the countdown to our trip around the world, we have started to prepare our "Travel blog" so we can keep our friends and loved ones here at home enthralled by our antics, experiences and the odd enivitable disasters. We hope that these entries are entertaining, informative and do not make you too envious. In the end this will provide a great record for Beza that she can keep in the years to come. We depart Canberra for Sydney on 11 September 2008 (yes I know, we did not make the connection at the time) and from Sydney to London via Singapore later that afternoon. AS we place entries and photos into this blog you will receive an email notification that we have updated the blob, so stay tuned. This is actually ... read more

Hi All, Well we don't have much to report except that Hervey Bay is experiencing an unseasonal wet period (surprise, surprise). We went for a drive on Saturday to some of the local areas along the Caloola coast and then on Monday we headed up to Woodgate which is only about two hours from here and stayed in the National Park for a couple of nights. It was a lovely place and would be great on a nice sunny day but the weather was overcast while we were there and we packed up on Wednesday morning in the rain. Just waiting for the weather to clear now and then we will head off again. Love Maree and John... read more
