Geo: 47.6034, -122.33Another great place. Stayed with friend TA & girlfriend who had a giant bunny rabbit & assorted other pets. Went to Pike Place Market -and the Space Needle and Coffee Houses of course & some good bookshops near the university or the "U" District(& the cavernous University Bookstore, 4326 University Way NE). I remember in the bars there were laminated cards saying try this nice cocktail - cider & lager (snakebite) aka looney juice that you'd get thrown out of some places at home for asking for! Also saw a Meg Ryan being filmed in something - Sleepless in Seattle perhaps?? And took a trip to North Bend in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, the place where the pilot episode of 'Twin Peaks' was filmed & went to the 'Damn Fine Cherry Pie' ... read more

Geo: 36.7882, -114.403We drove from SF-LV in a mustang with some obnoxious French people (friends of friends) & arrived as sun coming up, just C. and I were awake - well he was driving so I was the bag man - & LV looked like a mirage from the distance after all the desert driving, so cool, mind you it was 14 years ago so can't remember that much! But stupidly we didn't go Grand Canyon (even though it was discussed) always regret that. But the casinos in LV are amazing - we stayed in the Circus Circus casino hotel which was mad, with smarty curtains, candy strip carpet & velour blankets - all very Willie Wonka. Won nothing when we were straight but seemed to have success when caned. It was so hot there you ... read more

16 July 1992 Thursday. We flew from Brussels to Washington Dulles, arriving mid afternoon. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Fairfax City, and watched the Presidential debates on TV. Ross Perot was very popular, with his emphasis on out of control Federal budgets and the national debt. Almost twenty years later this issue is still the top of the national debate, as nothing has been done to reduce spending and tax equitably. 17 - 19 July 1992 Friday through Sunday. We drove to Virginia Beach to visit Linda's brother Marlan, sister in law Arlene and their kids Ashley and Rhett. We went to the beach near Dam Neck, used by military families, as both Marlan and Arlene were Navy. We also toured Norfolk sights and the last day visited Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg. At each ... read more

Geo: 37.6311, -122.432We unexpectedly got split up..... We had Delta air passes which entitles you to go on any flight as stand-by. So there was 2 seats leaving Chicago, great, on we get. Then we discover this stupid blonde bimbo & himbo couple wouldn't sit down as they couldn't sit together (they are probably long since split up!) so there was in fact only 1 spare seat. One of us had to stay as the luggage was on & the plane was engines running to take off, so C. said he'd get off. Naively it never occured to us we could be separated and as he got off I ran after him & handed him his book (which he had finished, d'oh) & the delta timetable booklet so he could figure out what to do next, ... read more

Geo: 41.8842, -87.6324Stayed in burbs with college friend Skin & it was a bit mad getting there, we had his address but no explanation that was not in fact in the city at all (or directions), so we get in taxi at the airport & show the man the address who runs us as we don't know where exactly it is - he was pretty mean actually. We go to information where an 80 year old woman helps us but apparently we are missing the post code or something so it all takes ages & of course we only have the phone number of Skins friend who doesn't know us & Skin won't be home til 5pm! So anyway she figures out what we have to do which involves a slow train to the middle of ... read more
