Shoe gazing came from the UK from the 1980s. It came from rock music, when a person was playing music they would look at their shoes. I don't know how to play any rock instruments but I do sometimes catch myself looking at my shoes while playing my clarinet or when I am listening to music. I think people participate in this because they may like the way it looks. Like it gives people the "cool" factor. I don't think it's beautiful but it's cool. Beautiful to me is something classic, this seems contemporary. Maybe in time this would become classic.
