I am sure the northern part of New Mexico is pretty cool, Cimarron is a place I have always heard is a cool town. Santa Fe is one of America's favorite resort spots with history, cultural diversity and beauty. The southern part... at least the part observable off Interstate 10, was a very ugly trek. There was absolutely nothing worth looking at. Relieved to finally see mile markers for any town, but especially the town we had chosen to stay over for, we pulled into what looked like a 3 building town. After driving 3 miles past our hotel to find the laundromat, since our clothes still reeked of cigarettes and casinos, we saw that it did have more than 3 buildings, but not many. The laundromat did not have quarters or detergent so we hit up their supermarket where everyone knew everyone's names. No where to eat except a Godfathers/Subway attached to the Loves gas station. We headed to our Days Inn, we had named our own price of $46 on price line, rates typically ranging from $77-100. Easy to tell why it was accepted, our 2 star room had cockroaches! Yuck.
