Day 12- Buffaloed
This morning we got up at 5:30 to go look for some more wildlife! We didn’t see anything at first except for a few bison. Then as we drove around a corner we saw a car ahead that was stopped, we hoped they had spotted something. Then we got closer and realized that the animals that they had spotted were about 100 bison blocking the road, or on the side of the road. We got buffaloed again! Finally, we got through the bison after a 25 minute wait. Even the babies decided to block the road so we couldn’t really do anything! When we got by we drove for a while and then stopped and parked at a turnout where a lot of other people had stopped. There was a school group that was there and they had a ranger talk that we got to listen to about wolves. The ranger was one of the field wolf experts and had the tracking device with him. All the wolves were out of range that morning. It was really cool and informational. After a while none of the people with telescopes spotted anything so we decided to go back to

our cabin. We got there without spotting anything and only a 3 minute delay from the buffalo. When we got back to our cabin we fell back asleep almost right away. It was really cold and getting in our nice warm beds was very comforting. Once we woke up we ate breakfast and checked out. Then we got back on the road again. There was a short road leading to a petrified tree. It was a tree that turned into a rock. I know hard to believe but true. On our way back to the car, from the tree, someone spotted a coyote. It was really cool and beautiful. It stopped to pose a couple of times it was really funny. Next, we got back in the car and drove for about an hour to another unique lodge in the park, called Mammoth Hot Springs. It is really old and pretty. Our cabin was pretty nice and we saw some mommy and baby elk grazing on the lawn. They were really cute. We had an excellent dinner in the dining room and hurried to catch a show. The guy who ran the show, Randy, is a really good pianist. He

played the piano and had some slides of the seasons in Yellowstone today, and lots of other pictures of the park in its early days. It was pretty cool. Afterward, we went back to our cabin and watched a Fugitive episode. Then we said goodnight to Yellowstone and fell asleep for our last night in the park.
