Thank God for the windlass. It was very hard getting the new anchor(Manson Supreme, 60 lbs.) broken free at Block. It had really dug in. We tried several fuel docks finding that Champlain’s was the only one still selling diesel before we finally got underway for Cape May NJ. Our old radar unit seems to have died so we don’t have that available. Beautiful weather, sunny, warm, but the light wind is right on our nose.

Sailing south for the winter is a dream both Gene and I have had for a long time. Neither of us is employed this year so it seemed like the time to go. Making that decision began what seemed like a marathon of tasks: long-postponed boat equipment upgrades; discussions with others who have made the trip before us; providing to have home chores like bills and maintenance taken care; weeding out stuff to make room for more clothes(mine!), food and water; charts, guides and software for the areas we would be visiting. At times it seemed we’d never be ready but at last departure weekend arrived... full info
