“Mt Kilimanjaro”“Mt Kilimanjaro”“Mt Kilimanjaro”

We flew over Africa’s highest mountain on our way from Tanzania to London.
Today we said goodbye to Tanzania and the friends that we had made there, particularly Major Fraser Chalwe who had spent every day with us and had made the trip fun with his sayings (“Kwa, Kwa, Kwa” which means “Quick, Quick, Quick!”) and the way he said “Hello” in his Zambian accent!

We also said goodbye to the heat, the power-cuts and the bucket showers as we boarded our plane to New York via London.

Landing in New York 18 hours later it was hard to believe that places like Tanzania even existed. Driving over the Brooklyn Bridge into the ‘city that never sleeps’ we were blinded by the dazzling lights and all of the ‘Americanisms’ (like a Starbucks on every corner!)

How can some people live with everything and some people with nothing? It’s surreal.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:

LUKE: The pillows on the bed - ahhh!
RICHARD: The air-conditioning in our hotel room
LAUREN: The hot shower and the clean-sheeted bed!
