Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Tips

Gallivanting Like a Royal, Duchess DJ Love
Hello Royals,
As many prepare for the Thanksgiving journey to spend the holiday with loved ones and friends, allow me to share some travel tips. First and foremost, remember Thanksgiving is about gratitude. So do not stress over baking the perfect turkey or smoking it too dry. Instead focus on the moment. Don’t take a second for granted. Cherish those folks you hold dear.
Some folks prefer driving to moms for Thanksgiving along with 50 million other motorists hitting the highways, so be alert. The Thanksgiving season is usually one of the busiest of the year. Check the weather several times for the entire route. Take emergency supplies just in case of anything. Don’t forget it is deer season and the deer can jump right in front of your vehicle. Also stop at Buc’ees, QT, or Love’s Travel Stop to fuel up and recharge your energy. If you are like me, when I see Buc’ees Beaver, my car just heads that way. Always take snacks, regardless of mode of travel. I take a sweatshirt, even if I’m going to Florida or Hawaii
as it can become chilly.
When traveling with children or special needs folks, think of what will make their journey enjoyable. Eat mini meals about every 2.5 hours, stop/stand/stretch often, play road trip games like I spot a bug (Volkswagen or honk with your arm at the truckers), and most importantly, drive and ride with patience. Share the love on the highways this year.
For those flying, Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Sunday afterwards will be the busiest air travel days. I prefer taking early flights on the actual holiday to avoid stress. It's less crowded and usually cheaper while having a smoother experience. Arrive at the airport early. My suggestion is to arrive at least 2 hours before the flight. Parking will be hectic, so plan accordingly. I suggest pre-paying the parking to guarantee a desirable spot. Find fun, interesting things to do in the airport. This time of year, you may see Christmas decorations on display. Snap a photo, share a travel experience online, do a random act of kindness to bring goodwill your way. Plan for the TSA lines, which can take up to an hour or more. Check your airport website for estimated wait
times. Don’t forget, the TSA has strict carry-on and checked luggage rules.
Once at your destination, relax. Pause and breathe. Take a magnesium supplement to help you sleep and an extra probiotic to aid with all the food your body will consume. Drink warm tea or drink after the big meal to ease digestion. Walk too. Enjoy these moments with your chosen community. Celebrate the gift of life and the opportunity to be together this year in person.
Sending virtual hugs, traveling mercies, and wonderful wishes for the holiday.
