A quick August getaway was a second cruise to Bermuda. Our first Bermuda cruise, which I’ve written about in these pages, was in 2010. Covid-19 had put off cruising for three years. Carnival Legend was sailing out of Baltimore on Bermuda and Bahamas cruises. Baltimore is only an hour away, making it a convenient departure point. With that we made a reservation and arrived at Cruise Baltimore at 1:50 p.m. on the appointed sailing day. There was a long queue for parking and a longer one for security and check-in. Bermuda required evidence of a negative proctored Covid-19 test within 48 hours of sailing. We were on board Carnival Legend at 3:15. The Electric Violins with In Trio were playing over the Atrium bar, a cheerful greeting. Heading to the Lido Deck for lunch, a discovery was made. The lunch food service was already closing before everyone was aboard! In the even, I found pizza and Caesar salad at the pizza counter and Susan found a burger at the poolside Guy Fieri burger station.

Sailing was promptly at 5:00 p.m. Fort McHenry, the Canton Marine Terminal, Liberty Ship S.S. John W. Brown and N/S Savannah all passed in review. I also enjoyed seeing all the working ships in port. By 5:50 we were under the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge was next towards dusk. Weekend traffic above was heavy returning to the Washington area from Ocean City.

Dinner for me was the Braised Beef Brisket and for Susan the Sweet & Sour Shrimp. The Welcome Aboard show was more condensed than in the past. Cruise Director Gabriel introduced himself and welcomed everyone and the singers and dancers performed to a Bruno Mars tune.
