We are currently scabbing some power from a fast food restaurant in Yellowstone having purchased the cheapest thing on the menu… how the mighty have fallen. We are also on day 9 of tent living, it’s Friday 21st so this will get posted when we have internet – there’s not much of anything in the wilderness! The last couple of days in Grand Teton were eventful for mainly two counts. We saw two bears. One was extremely close and seemed quite happy that about 20 tourists were taking pictures (selfies in our case) of him. What made this even more extraordinary was that we were on a 10 mile hike classed as “very strenuous” and we saw other people attempting it. The final full day in Grand Teton was Papa Perrow’s 60th birthday so we went ... read more

WOW! One whole week in Yellowstone, a place that seems to have it all in regards of nature. Scenic views, volcanic hydrothermal features, increadible wildlife. There were also a lot of other people sharing the fun and at times it felt crowded, but what can you do, the place is so exceptional so people arrive from all over the world to see it. Our first night we stayed at Madison campground, near the west entrance. This was the first time we used our newly acquired tent, and it turned out to be easy to set up, well breathing and rainproof. It was just big enough, my toes are touching the tent cloth when the pillow we bought from Ikea is touching the tent in the other end. The only thing that wasn't coping with the Yellowstone ... read more

We’re not sure whether it was the Mexican food or some sort of violent reaction to having our core body temperatures severely reduced for an extended period of time, but boy were we gassy this morning! It’s a good thing we really love each other - unlucky for the people sitting next to us at the Thermopolis Cafe. We opted to order two breakfasts and “share”. Sharing... this is a newer concept for Jon. Luckily, we get to continue to learn things about each other now that we’re happily married. I’m currently embarking on a 12 step sharing programme with him. Before leaving Thermopolis, we popped into the Dinosaur Museum. As Dorothy might say to Toto, Pre-Mesozoic fossils, Devonian fish and an Archaeopteryx specimen - oh my. What a surprise of a place. Completely unassuming from ... read more

Wednesday was the midpoint of our trip and it was the only evening we would sleep under a man-made roof in Yellowstone. We had certainly worked for it and this dawn wouldn't differ: an amibitous hike out of Canyon lay before us. Camping two nights at the same site had us fixated on one familiar conduit and we were ready to branch off and explore—which, in this case, would result in a longer, less direct route. This would indeed burn more daylight, but the convenience-to-come of sleeping indoors meant we weren't tethered to the setting of the sun: "camp" was already assembled and surrounded by sustenance; warm and waiting. My first choice was the Wapiti: it was the northern boundary of the area's wolf closure and I thought it might offer a glimpse of Hayden Valley ... read more

I woke up alive in the shed & to be honest had a great night's sleep despite not feeling 100% safe. It's another early alarm call just after 6.00am as our bags need to be out by 7am so you never sleep through with the panic you will sleep in & be the last person holding the bus up which doesn't go down well with Bob the Tour Director! Today we are off to Yellowstone National Park for the day. Now I'm not that into geology & wildlife so don't expect me to give you all the in's & out's! Instead I've attached some photos & will type out what's in the leaflet I received! So top line.....Yellowstone National Park; - is known for it's geysers & it's volcanic eruptions over the last 2 million years ... read more
