Heading South. Left the house at Thermopolis Wyoming at 5:30 AM--dark thirty. I walked Tass in the State Park while Mont did his 20 minute routine at the Gottsche Wellness Center. Deer bounding all over the place. Around 32 degrees with no wind. How's that for typical Wyoming winter weather.. As soon as we left the Wind River Canyon, the wind hit. Bad . It made the dog and us hurry back to the truck at the Hyland Rest Area. Had to stop in Casper to pick up a camshaft position sensor at the International Truck dealership--$95 as compared to $153 or $189 at home. PREPARATIONS FOR PANAMA First things first. I had no valid passport....for 20 years actually. New passport --$97-- accompanied by the ugliest picture I have ever had taken. As my daughter said "That's why you don't see any of us whipping ours out for frivolous reasons." Extreme Panama's tour would cost $1480 so there goes my IRA dispersment. Plane fare via Continental, roundtrip from Houston to Panama, $543.70 plus travel insurance for $29.89. I know the rest of the bunch wasn't taking out that insurance but that was a concession I made to my age. People that I grew up with back in Wisconsin had been dropping like flies lately. I started thinking about seeing the Panama Canal six years ago after seeing the Erie Canal. I never really thought about the fact that the Canal really wasn't all there was to see in that country!!! After all, even an internet search in 1999 turned up very few leads on tourism in that country, especially since I was interested in only low-priced( translate " cheap") options. So when, our daughter said "Let's go for it" last fall, I now found a tour site "Extreme Panama" that filled my need for low cost and her need for seeing the whole country.
