The road is calling, I can hear it beckoning me, only a few more loose ends to tie up and it will be time. Today I got the ac fixed in the car (in preparation of the 100+ degree weather of the mojave), also a tune up, oil change, tire rotation and all that good stuff. Also decided on a rough itinerary. Still don't know the exact departure date but will be sat, sun, or mon. Milwaukee - Minneapolis (to see the brother) Minneapolis - Mt. Rushmore Mt. Rushmore - Carhenge (look it up) Carhenge - Yellowstone Yellowstone - Southern Idaho (guess they are famous for their hot springs) Southern Idaho - Reno Reno - LA LA - Vegas After Vegas the Grand Canyon seems to be the next choice.... Ill play it by ear after ... read more

Another Sisters Weekend took place Oct. 3-5. We met in Green Bay, Wisconsin. We were all able to squeeze into my Prius so we left two cars in a parking lot and drove up to Door County. We stayed in the Wagon Trail Inn. On Saturday we walked around Gills Point, Sisters Bay and Ellison Bay. We had a lot of fun just being together.... read more

For the past few months Jessie and I have been homesick. First for the United States, a country filled with things we thought we knew and missed, and the people there we missed. And now, for the foreign country that for a year adopted us and made us feel at home. About five weeks ago we left some of the closest, dearest friends we have ever had and will ever make. We knew it would be difficult to leave Japan, but what we didn't know was how difficult it would be to return to the things we assumed would seem familiar. Before we left, I wrote that we wouldn't know the ways we had changed until we were home, and at this point it's safe to say those ways are numerous and not easily explained. I ... read more

We passed through some more storms on this leg of the journey and just missed the 4:30 tour. We went to Lambeau Field for dinner at Curly's. The stadium looks really nice.... read more

We left Chicago on Thursday and drove up Lake Michigan to Ephraim, Wisconsin in Door County. One of the highlights of the drive was going through Milwaukee...at least for Easton who is a Brewers fan! We stopped and bought some Brewers shirts for him there so he would have them to wear in Minneapolis when we went to the Twins/Brewers game on Sunday. Ephraim is a tiny village in Door County on the shore of Green Bay. We stayed at the Ephraim Shores Motel which has a very nice restaurant on the second level. The people were as welcoming and friendly as could be. The motel has a fleet of bicycles that you can borrow to ride through the town. At first Evan and I explored on bike and then Brenda and I. Easton insisted on ... read more

Green Bay - Detroit - Narita Int'lWell, we're back to Green Bay after an exhausting pack-move-unpack. Two weeks from now we'll be in Minami Alps. It was difficult to leave our friends in Marshalltown, Iowa, but that chapter of our lives is over and we feel Japan is where we need to be. It will be the experience of our lifetimes, but we hope to share it with our friends and families.... read more

I “packed” a lot in to today (pun intended)! I visited one of the most storied venues in the NFL - Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Today’s stop was one where I didn’t have to worry about finding a place to park. I figured I could easily maneuver around in the stadium parking lot and I was correct. I learned today they are celebrating 50 years at Lambeau Field this season. I also discovered some other interesting tidbits about my favorite NFL team. The Packers are the only team in professional sports owned by a community and operated as a nonprofit organization. I also learned that Earl Lambeau was the founder, VP, head coach and player. He coached for 31 years and won 6 championships. It was a fun time taking a tour of ... read more

This has been one of those trips..... It started fine. The first day was short, I ended up in San Francisco where my husband met me. We went down to Fisherman's Wharf, etc. We walked about 10 miles and the weather was fantastic! The next day, he flew home and I continued on my now hellish trip. Of course I blame all of it on Chicago, as I now do most of the negative things in my life. (including broken nails and splinters) Our first plane had mechanical issues and shouldn't have had passengers put on it until the issue was solved, but they boarded them anyway. So they sat, staring at me for an hour at the gate in San Francisco. That flight went smooth after that. My next plane had no air conditioning ... read more

The afternoon of Sunday, December 17th was unseasonably warm in Green Bay and made for an excellent day as the Packers played host to the Lions. Unfortunately for me, the Packers ended up defeating the Lions in this game. I always cheer against the Packers, being from Minnesota and a Vikings fan. Following the game I could overhear countless conversations, all relating to speculation of Brett Favre's possible retirement following this season. Personally I really don't care at all whether Brett Favre retires or not. I was just happy to spend the afternoon outdoors watching the game. The worst part about living in Milwaukee and going to Packer's games in Green Bay is that fact that Milwaukee is not far enough from Green Bay to justify an overnight stay in a hotel, but it is far ... read more
