this is my first day "on the road" blog ... please be patient ... wrote in word last night and will attempt to transfer it to this site ... don't know what will happen ... DAY 1 D day finally arrived … about2 p.m. Greg and I pushed off for Alaska … our first stop was at the lock smith for a hitch lock for the aliner … they were closed … so down the road to ace hardware … we finally wound up using a clevis pin … we can keep the trailer hitch from opening, however, we cannot lock the trailer hitch … The dodge caravan pulls the aliner like a dream … if we go up a hill it shifts into third, which is great … even though we are headed west We ... read more

2nd voyage bagged 6 towns. Clinton, Milton, Edgerton, Fulton, and Afton. All WI towns. The last one was in Illinois with Rockton. 202 miles and was completed on May 15th. Hubby and I ate at Hooter's in Janesville. I could never be one of the waitresses there. Boobs all pushed up and flirt with the local guys. Maybe if I was much younger. Anyway, we never did find Beaverton Crossroads. It was a nice ride. Illinois on the northwest side isn't all that bad. A lot of empty roads and scenic areas, but we were a bit chilled on the way home. ... read more

Well, I went to Beloit on my way to see G Love and Special Sauce. At first, after parting ways with Becca, I felt extremely agitated and unwelcome when in Beloit, despite having lived there so long. I didn't get to see much of it, since I only stopped to see Becca and then to see Phil who lives on the college campus. But nothing much has changed except the bad vibes are gone. I'm happy to see Becca comfortable in her living situation (new roommate Elon is a guy I sort of know, but know enough to know he's cool). and happy to see Phil taking a probably much-needed break from Marnie. Yesterday, Chip and I went to the French Consulate in Chicago to get my visa. I figured now that I have an official visa, I am therefore official! I'm going to France!!! A couple funny things happened in Chicago, including a 3-block sprint to ensure I wasn't late for my meeting, the wrong elevator, no bank statement or letter from my parents, and an incensed couple screaming at each other in the office across from the Visa one. Chip also tripped and fell on an escalator with his hands in his pockets so he had no way to catch himself. After getting my visa, we thought we'd get sort of a headstart on Christmas Presents and walked down the Magnificent Mile where we were completely unsuccessful.
