Me Carrie and Millie went for brunch at the cool 50's diner called Silver Diner you have your own little booth with a jukebox you have to put a quarter in to play a song and its not electronic you have to flick the page over to see what songs are available! As I love the 50's I had a lot of fun just wish I'd had my grease outfit with me lol!!
I had Caramel French Toast with Fresh Strawberries and a little pot of maple syrup and cinnamon sour cream it was so tasty well everything except the sour cream that was just wrong!!lol As you can see I was a complete pig and ate the whole lot but it would have been a crime if I hadn't because it was so yummy and in my defence it was brunch so that was what i had for breakfast and lunch today!
After we'd had brunch Carrie dropped me off at Mount Vernon which was Washington's Home and Estate I walked around pretty much the whole estate which was huge except for the farm but I wasn't that disappointed as I have been to a farm before! I got to
Jukebox!
Grease is the word started playing I got very excited! good job they didn't put the Hand Jive as I so would have got up and danced lol! look round his house but unfortunately you couldn't take photos, but i did take photos of the servants and slave outhouses, in his will he granted all of his slaves freedom and there is a memorial to the slaves to mark where they were buried! At 1 o'clock they had a ceremony at The Crypt where George Washington and his wife Martha are buried they are in tombs the left is Martha's and the right George Washington's behind them 25 more family members are buried! They chose people to read Washington's prayer and the pledge of Alliegance and then two men one in the army and the other was just an old guy took a wreath inside and placed it between the tombs. They do this twice daily as a sign of respect and dedication for all the work that Washington did for their country and it's Independance, I have to say it was a bit awkward being there I was like yeah ummm sorry we didn't give up your country that easily lol! I went on a Cruise on the Potomac River and got a good view of the house and back of the estate we sailed up to
My Brunch
Caramel French Toast with Strawberries Oh yes!! Fort Washington, another awkward moment was when they were explaining about the English burning down the white house etc I was like yeah sorry about that too ha ha!! There were people dressed up in period costume walking around the estate which was cool and there were archeology students who were interning for the summer digging out sites in the grounds! In the house you pass by the room where George Washington died of an infection which caused him to slowly suffocate to death nice!!
They have a museum which has theatre's in where you can watch films about and around George Washington I went in one and it was so cool it was about the Revolutionary War and the sound effects of cannons and guns came with vibrations of your chair and there was smoke that billowed out from around the screen and it even fake snowed in the theatre at one point quite exciting! I also learnt something that I didn't know the French helped the Yanks out during the war, how rude of them maybe this is why we as a country hate the french so much lol!!
I was so gutted that I couldn't get a
My Brunch Take Two
All gone, well it would have been wrong to leave some on the plate when it tasted that good! ticket for the National treasures book of secrets tour, they filmed part of the film in the basement of the house and other parts of the estate i was so tempted to sneak in behind the tour when i saw them going into the basement but that would have been naughty so I didn't! It was a really hot day so was really nice to just walk around the gardens, just rubbing it in as I've heard how bad the weather has been!! lol
In the evening when I got back we had a cook out on the grill and ate outside which was fun apart from the flies that were trying to eat our dinner pesky little beggars lol then me and Carrie went for ice cream at Ben and Jerry's. We walked down to the watefront which is a mile from her house down King street to the water which was where the ice cream shop was, plus we walked back so we didn't feel as bad when we were eating it even though it was a ridiculous size for a small ice cream everything is huge over here there is no small lol!! Old town is a
My Car
Actually meant for kids but it was so cool so they gave me one lol! tourist town and thursday evenings are a very busy night as well as friday and saturday, so there were tons of people busking in the streets, a band playing by the fountain and in a park we found a whole group of bag pipe players in kilts and everything crazy stuff! Down at the waterfront there were even more buskers including the guy that plays glasses there's a video you can watch however he got this guy to help by hitting this huge spanner every so often but this guy has no sense of timing and kinda ruins it! Then there was this random parrot and bird stand you can get pictures taken with a parrot on your shoulder and you can hire the birds for parties and functions and bar mitzvahs lol just seemed such a random place at night to have them lol! All in all a fun filled and packed day!!

And I see what you mean by the spanner guy, what an appropriate nickname lol! I'm also loving the photos, especially the one of you with the Washington family (you'll have to introduce me sometime), and the parrots!! Parrots are so cool, I love them! Say hi to Carrie for me, Millie is so cute! You sound very busy, I can't believe you did all of that in one day! And haha yeah thanks for rubbing it in about the weather lol, it's a bit brighter and sunnier now (really hot yesti), but last week was awful, raining all day every day, bet you're glad to be out of the country haha! Keep having fun, take care! -x-
