Sidenote: my netbook is being a total fail on the boat... and their computers don't have USB ports... so no photos for the time being which sucks. First things first – I got a sunburn. Who in the world goes to Seattle and gets a sunburn…?! Apparently I do haha.
We had a huge day today – walking around and exploring all around downtown. Didn’t realize how hilly Seattle is – it’s very reminiscent of San Francisco. It’s perfectly fine when you’re going downhill… uphill is another matter haha.
We wandered down towards Pioneer Square – there were a few statues, a nice historical-looking area and a memorial for fire fighters. Oh. Also, there was a field trip and a whole CRAP load of kids… ahhh, felt like I was back at work watching the kiddos run around 😉
We noted smoke coming out of the sewers and a bunch of military planes flying overhead… good thing we had read that they were doing military exercises today.
Also, we noted that Seattle is pretty much a souped-up Ottawa… the two cities are quite similar… except Seattle’s slightly better haha. Essentially, if Ottawa actually tried

Looking down towards the Stadium and Mt. Rainier and gave a crap, it could be like Seattle. One of the biggest observations we had? They *gasp* have a downtown tunnel for their main bus routes and light-rail link. So it can be done?! Who would’ve known … 😉 We took a picture of a tunnel station – perhaps we should send it to Ottawa City Council… sigh.
Anyway. After Pioneer Square we headed to Pike Place Market! There’s a fish market (with the largest lobster tails I have EVER seen, and with fisherman throwing gigantic trout(?) around like it was a baseball), a bunch of arts/crafts stores, fruit stands, etc. It’s quite a neat little area! We explored the entire area. Even saw a guy walking around with a *LIVE* duck in his purse. Yep. That was interesting. I hope it was his pet and not going to get slaughtered…
We walked by the
ORIGINAL Starbucks. Oh yeah. However, the line-up was out the door… needless to say I didn’t care enough to wait. (
When we passed it again later in the day I went in for an iced coffee though. Yum )
Lunch was fantastic! Went to Pike Place

Near Pioneer Park Chowder in the Market – Mom just had a salad, but I did the Chowder Sampler – four HUGE cups of different chowders. It was soooo good, but incredibly filling! Haha, I had to pretty much waddle for the next hour I was so full.
We headed back down towards the Pier and waterfront – we walked along the water until we got to the Olympic Sculpture Park. Mom went for a coffee while I made the trek up to the Space Needle. Sigh. Only 8 blocks of so, but all uphill at a ridiculous angle… needless to say, I was quite pleased to reach flat ground right before going into the actual building haha.
The Space Needle offers a nice view of the city… but it really isn’t that impressive haha. I guess I’m jaded since I’m used to the CN Tower which is definitely taller. Great view of the city with Mt. Rainer in the background though, I’ll give it that. Also, got a great photo of Mom waiting for me down at the Pier..!! I took a pic thinking
wouldn’t it be funny if with zoom I can find her? Yep. I zoomed
afterwards and she’s a little fuzzy, but she’s there! I love it.
I went back to meet up with Mom and then we roamed around Olympic Sculpture Park a bit, took some pictures, and then headed back downtown to bus back to the hotel. All in all a great day =)
My netbook is being finicky, so we’ll see if we’re able to update everyday from the boat – but we shall try!
