Today we are headed out to drive the “Skyline Drive” in Virginia. The drive is one of many scenic drives that are listed in the Atlas we have been using for the trip.

In spots, you can tell the trees have gone past the prime time for viewing the fall foliage. Then there are other spots that the trees look just right for viewing.

By the time we arrived at the start of the drive the rain had stopped, but the skies were full of some heavy hitting clouds. That didn’t scare us off for the drive. We decided we would camp at the first of the four campgrounds in the park and then drive the truck through the park.

Before we arrived at the first campground, the weather was changing on us fast. We were driving through the rain, again, and some very dense fog. We were having a hard time seeing in front of us on the road.

We made it almost thirty miles before we decided to ditch the park and head to a campground outside of Harrisburg, Virginia. By the time we reached the exit of the park, the fog had lifted, but the clouds still loomed in the skies.

We learned that the RV was not meant to drive for long periods of time up steep climbs, but that was not going to stop us from continuing our trek to the Smoky Mountains.
