and we're seeing all of the buttes
We are on the approach to Monument Valley
This is Mexican Hat rock, which is a landmark around here.
Sunflowers and Globemallow, also everywhere we turn.
The Prairie Primrose is also everywhere we look.
This flower, whose name I have never learned, was everywhere.
Today was all about wildflowers.
From here there's a great view of the Bears Ears Buttes that give Bears Ears National Monument its name.
and the usual interesting rock
These bridges are huge.
There's lots of Indian Paintbrush.
I always find the underside and structure of the bridges fascinating.
There are lots of tributary stream channels.
and lizard.
Once again, the scale is rather hard to imagine.
Our last stop was Owachomo Bridge.
There has been a wet spring, so our whole trip has been full of wildflowers.
Kachina Bridge had an interesting little side stream that was dry right now, but probably is quite lovely when it's flowing.
Next we went to Kachina Bridge
and interesting rocks.
with its attendant lizard
because their relative isolation discouraged visitors who would have collected artifacts and destroyed things prior to their protected status..
The powers that be believe that these ruins are well preserved
One of the buildings still has its wooden roof after almost a thousand years.
Our next stop was the Horsecollar Ruin overlook.

There were a lot of wildflowers
with lots of slickrock
The trail was rather interesting
and then the stairs you see here, and along the ledge between the trees and the bulging rock face.
and the usual interesting rocks.

On that ledge
The first bridge that we came to was the Sipapu Bridge, shown here blending in with the landscape.
But we didn't go all the way down to the bridge, because the trail got really tricky.

And of course I had to take a picture of a lizard
Our first stop was a scenic overlook, where there were no bridges to be seen, but there is a canyon carved by the Colorado River, which seems to have a habit of carving canyons.

Our next stop was a short hike
and watched the sunset to wrap up another day.
The scale is rather hard to appreciate.
we rounded a corner to see Delicate Arch right in front of us.
