Despite the fact that we were leaving the ranch at 10am, I woke up at 6.30am. No one else from our group was up, so I headed for a shower. On my return Todd walked past and seemed OK. At that moment I wasn't sure if I was fine now or still a little pissed.
A little later on and it was now 8am and only Sumi was awake as well. Mark was almost up, but not sure on anyone else, and I really didn’t care at that moment. As I was already packed and ready to go, I sat on the couch I slept on last night and covered my eyes with my cowboy hat. I did acknowledge those who said morning to me, or even apologised for last night, but that was it. I even had a 10 minute kip in that time. Zoe and Kylie tried to talk to me, but I didn’t say or do anything, so they finally give up.
When I got in the van, I took the seat behind Todd, and went straight to sleep again. I figured that if I was still pissed, that was the best solution as to not
explode at someone. It was a long drive and having tensions run high in a packed van was not the best thing to have. I managed to have a sleep even though we were taking a 40 mile short cut on a dirt track. At one point we had to stop as the van and trailer couldn’t get up the hill, so we had to walk up it whilst Todd drove the van up.
When I finally woke, I just stared out of the window, still ignoring everyone. Come lunch, everyone got burgers and chips to eat in Bryce National Park but I made a quick sandwich from out the back of the trailer. Kylie and Zoe said that I looked scary and angry. I was. Todd even asked me again what happened and why I was so pissed.
After the others finished their takeaways, Mark, Neal, Sumi and I headed for a hike down and back up along a wonderful part of Bryce NP. There were hundreds and thousands of sand buttes made up in the valley that we walked in, and from the top the vast view we had of these columns and the mountains far
on the horizon made it a special place. In one place there is a column that has somehow found its way into looking exactly like Queen Victoria. The resemblance was uncanny. A little further on we received word that there was a snake nearby the trail so we had to be careful. This made Mark, Neal and even Sumi want to hang around and look out for it. I on the other hand did not and so quickly walked through the area and waited for them.
Then there was the long arduous climb back to the top but we made it. I suppose after the Grand Canyon, this was nothing in comparison.
After the hike, and maybe being away from the main culprits, I realised that maybe I really shouldn’t have been so angry and pissed that morning and that I was making more out of it than I should. I was pissed that morning, but mainly because of the lack of sleep.
Our site was just outside of another National Park, Zion. The site was on a slight decline, but not enough to be a problem. Mark chose one table to sleep on and I took the other.
Tomorrow was going to be another big day.
By the end of the day I was talking more and seemed to have put it behind me.
