Summer Vacation St. Louis-Chicago 2007 Day 1

We boarded Amtrak in Austin on our way to St. Louis.

This will be a shorter vacation than usual. I've taken to long 2 or 3 week vacations but I think its time to go smaller this year. We've also decided to give train travel a shot this year. We are taking it to St. Louis, then to Chicago, then all the way back to Austin. We shall see how it goes.

As usual the train was late 😊

But we didn't mind. We are a bit too excited about or travel since it feels new this year. We are just taking seats on the way there but we will have a small cabin on the way back. I am looking forward to that.

What strikes me first is how boring the scene from Austin to St. Louis is. There is nothing! We stop in Dallas for a short bit and then in Texarkana where one can bounce back and forth between the Texas and Arkansas state line since the train station is right on it.

Also, its uncomfortable to sleep in seats but at least they are cushy! Ask me again in a few hours though.
