Happy 8th Anniversary Baby !
Here's how we spent our special day ! Eight years ago I would have never thought that I would spend my 8th Wedding Anniversary on top of a huge rock formation in Badlands National Park, South Dakota !! The whole day was one to be remembered. We started off with our traditional bath at the local Flying J Truck Stop and then we were off to feed these cute furry creatures at Prairie Dog Town. On the way to see the prairie dogs we stopped off at a hole-in-the wall restaurant called The Haven Inn Cafe for food. The girls and I went in to get a table while Tim went to the restroom and to stretch his legs. Before he was finished in the little boys room, we were already on our way out the door ! Emily, Kayla and I walked up to the buffet/salad bar and realized that we could only identify about three of the twenty items so Kayla looks at me and says "I would like to eat my lunch not have my lunch eat me !" There was some weird looking stuff on that bar so we rounded up Tim and decided we'd be better off taking our chances somewhere else. After lunch
Mr. and Mrs. Elk !!
These are a couple of the elk that we came upon driving through Bear Country. we arrived at Prairie Dog Town and there was no stopping Emily and Kayla. Tim bought them a couple of bags of food and they were off. I think they spent half of the time there trying to figure out how to smuggle one of the adorable creatures back to Georgia. They even suggested that we feed a prairie dog darvocet, wait until it passes out and then put it in a cage and bring it home with us. They weren't even kidding !! We left there (without a new pet) and headed over to view the "Prairie Homestead". We took a few pictures, bought a few post cards and was on our way. Our next stop was the highlight of the day for me personally. We traveled for a while until we came upon the Badlands National Park. It was so incredibly beautiful I really don't have words to describe it. We parked the RV and decided that we were going to become mountain climbers. We headed up to the top of one of the formations and when we reached the top it was astonishing. Standing there stareing across this amazing place is when Tim reached over, took my
Ride'em Cowgirls !!
I swear I didn't push her Mommy ! hand, gazed into my eyes and said "Happy Anniversary !" I followed that with a big fat kiss and just soaked all of it in for a few minutes. Of course I was waiting to see if he remembered what day it was because we've kinda lost track of days and time but, I was going to give him until about 8:00 that night to say something before I reminded him. Once again he didn't let me down. (Watch and learn boys!) After climbing around for a while and taking a few photos we headed off to this place that Lynn said we just had to see, Wall Drug Store. I thought to myself, why in the world would I want to go see a drug store, well when we got there I realized why. This place is awesome ! They had shopping, food, a mini water park, horses, etc. You have got to look it up online. It was really a neat place and I'm glad we took the time to stop by. You would think after all this we would've been exhausted but not us, we were on a mission to do it ALL ! So, we left
How Adorable !
Emmy & Kayla feeding the prairie dog they named "Tubby" ! Wall Drug Store and was on the track towards the Reptile Gardens. Yes, I said Reptile Gardens. Here the girls were able to kiss a snake, chase prairie dogs, and play with the biggest turtles you have ever seen. I think they really enjoyed it but it was time to get moving to the next attraction. We found a place called "Bear Country" and decided since we all were dying to see a bear we would go check it out. Well we didn't get to see a bear, we got to see over 300 bears !! There were little ones and big ones and teenager ones as Kayla says. They were everywhere just running around and playing. It was so awesome to see them up close and personal. The main "rule" was not to open any doors or windows so what do you think the first thing Tim did was? Yep, he opened the windows, he just couldn't stand it, he always has to do the opposite of what they tell us to do ! But don't worry about him corrupting Kayla because she's following in his footsteps just perfectly, they are my little rebels !! He was hanging out
Our Little Outlaws !
Should we leave em???? one window and she was out the other ! Once we leave Bear Country we decided to go ahead and make the drive all the way to Mt. Rushmore and get settled for the night at the Rushmore KOA Camp Ground. We arrive there and it is a great place. Everyone there said it was the nicest KOA in America and I believe it. They had about 50 horses in stables for horseback riding, two olympic size swimming pools, a full scale restaurant, several playgrounds, a little country shop, three laundromats, a pizza parlor, ice cream parlor, etc. I could go on for days about the amenities. I was pleasantly surprised and so we had dinner there and settled in for the night. I was so exhausted I don't even remember falling asleep !

I was having 'withdrawals'!
I had gotten use to the travel updates the first few days, so I was starting to have 'withdrawals' when I didn't see an update for a couple of days :-). I know writing this blog is not high on the priority list (it should be though!) but the rest of us are vicariously taking this trip with you. I'm not surprised that the Big 'T' didn't forget your anniversary and hopefully you got the voicemail I left for you as well. I was probably 13/14 when I saw Wall Drug store, so if it left an impression on me at that age, you know it was worth seeing. I'm just glad you were listening when I told you about all these places. Just Kidding - HAHA! It sounds like you all (including the girls) are having a blast. I told Kayla I knew she would enjoy it once you got going. Ask her if my words are running through her head? Wishing you Safe Travels and Big Adventures! Love, Lynn
