Dirty Laundry !!
Emmy & Kayla goofing off at the laundromat !! Last night was a first for us, it was our very first night spent at a camp ground! I think we all went into mini comas when our heads hit the pillows because the next day nobody could remember falling asleep. We've been going non-stop since we left Stockbridge and it was nice to settle in somewhere and get some good sleep. We got up bright and early and headed for the "community showers". This was a new experience for us and I wasn't sure how it would go. We get to the building and the shower stalls are not divided into male/female rooms. Everybody gets to shower in the same building and in the same stalls. Me and girls decided we didn't really like this much plus the stalls were really small and we had to use our own towels which meant we had to wash and dry them too. The final consensus in the Strain RV was that we liked the shower rooms at the truck stops much better. How's that for irony ??? After bath-time we packed up the rental car and headed out for the day. Our son Jason had told us about the Crazy Horse Memorial
Mt. Rushmore !!!
Here we are in front of Mt. Rushmore in the rain !! Monument so we thought we would go check it out. After arriving there we decided to stay and have lunch in their new restaurant. Tim had the Buffalo Stew with mashed potatoes and it was actually really good. We got to see a dynamite blasting on the mountain near the horses head and then we were off to Custer State Park. The drive was nice and we were at Custer before we knew it. We drove through and saw lots of wildlife. First we saw some pronghorns and then came the deer, the turkey and the horses. Little did we know that there was a big surprise waiting for us around the bend. When we came over the hill there were about 50 buffalo in the middle of the road, just taking their precious time. Of course Tim and Kayla have their windows down and are trying their best to touch one of them ! We finished the ride through the park and then headed for some excitement at the Rushmore Caves. We're all excited about seeing the caves and stuff so we head up the stairs and get our tickets immediately. We shopped for about 15 minutes waiting for
Call Me Chicken If You Want !
This is where I totally FREAKED out and couldn't go into the cave ! our group to be called in next. Well, we get called and everyone starts heading for the entrance to the cave, including me. I let everyone in the entire group go ahead of me and then I had no choice, I had to go in ! I think I made it about 8 steps into the cave when I realized this was not going to happen for me today. I completely FREAKED OUT and took off for daylight !!!! I'm not sure at what point Tim and the girls realized I wasn't in the group anymore but at that moment I really didn't care. I headed straight to the gift shop, bought some post cards and a ginger ale and went out on the balcony to start writing. Thank goodness the next thing on our "to do list" was an outdoor experience. After about an hour or so my crew joined me on the balcony and then we were off to the Big Thunder Gold Mines. Yes, you guessed it, we went panning for gold in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It was lots of fun and we all found a little bit of gold. Now when I say
Kayla in the Cave !
This child has no fear !! little bit, I mean a itsy bitsy tiny speckle of gold ! But hey, we got to experience it and mark it off our list. Plus, Kayla and Emily said it was well worth it because our "assistant" was really hot !! After a little gold and a "really hot guy" we decided we better get over to Mt. Rushmore because the clouds were getting darker by the minute and it was looking like rain was eminent. We thoroughly enjoyed Mt. Rushmore but we had to make it really quick because the rain had beat us there and it was only getting worse. We took cover in the Mt. Rushmore Restaurant and decided to have dinner there and wait out the bad weather. Tim feasted on stew again while the girls enjoyed a huge plate of spaghetti and meatballs. We dined as we looked out the glass walls onto the Mt. Rushmore Monument. Once our bellies were full and the weather had passed we decided that we were tired and the bad weather was putting a damper on the day so we just headed back to the camp ground. I let the girls rest for a little while and then
Crazy Horse Monument
This is the side view of the Crazy Horse Monument. I broke the bad news to them that they had to go to the laundromat and assist me with doing all the dirty laundry. Much to my surprise, they hopped right up and helped me pack up the car and head out. Of course once we get there and they realize that the fudge shop and ice cream shop are on both sides of the laundromat, they disappeared for about 30 minutes. But don't worry, they came back and boy was that something to see. They proceeded to push each other around in the rolling laundry buggies all over the place, they even ventured outside onto the sidewalks. But, it got the best of them, two of the hottest guys you've ever seen (according to them) came waltzing through the doors just in time to catch them acting like silly little three year olds. It was hilarious !! They looked absolutely mortified !! What made it worse was that the guys had to walk around the man cleaning up the HUGE mess Emily and Kayla had made just a few minutes earlier. They were "cart wrestling" with each other and somehow the entire brand new bottle of liquid laundry detergent
Buffalo Stew Mmmmmm Good !
Lunch at the Crazy Horse Restaurant with my Punkin ! was dropped in the middle of the floor and it exploded all over the place. Of course I couldn't say it fast enough when the guys asked who had made the mess. Kayla and Emily just wanted to curl up in the corner and die. Once again I told the girls "these are the things that memories are made of". Later they helped me fold all the laundry, bag it up and haul it back to the motor home. Around 10:00 the girls decide they want to play a game so we broke out Taboo and the four of us played until 3:00 in the morning. It was so much fun, we hadn't laughed like that in a long time !! Well we're packing up in the morning and heading out to Wyoming. Please pray that we may have safe travels and we'll talk to you soon. Good Night !
