The Roo Ranch
The girls made me do it ! I want to start by saying that the phone and internet service in these hills up here is terrible so you'll have to bare with me on the blogs. It takes me about 2 hours just to do one blog because I get kicked off about every 10 minutes or so. Also, Jason (the son) told me yesterday how to re-size my pictures so that it won't take me 30 minutes to download 2 pictures so you should be seeing more pictures soon. Thanks Jason !! I'll do my best to keep ya'll updated.
Our sixth day of travels brought us something that we will never forget. We got packed up this morning, ready to leave Mt. Rushmore behind and head on off to the beautiful Yellowstone National Park. Our morning started off with our first "real" breakfast. Kayla and Emily decided to skip on the Captain Crunch Berries and Fruity Pebbles and opted for a huge to-go plate of hot pancakes loaded with butter and syrup with a side order of crunchy buffalo bacon! Of course, I didn't tell them that it was buffalo until they started chomping down on it like there was no tomorrow !! As soon
She's So Adorable !!
My sweet little Emmy ! as I told them what they were eating, they both grabbed their mouths and ran for the trash can, I was laughing, really really hard !! I know it was kinda mean but you should see some of the stuff they do to me ! Our first stop of the day was "The Roo Ranch". Yes, Roo as in kangaroo. After going into shock about it costing $60.00 to get in, we all followed our little tour guide out to the ranch. There we were able to see several different species of kangaroos as well as a few other types of creatures who's names I can't spell. At the end of the tour we were able to pet a precious little joey (baby roo) so I guess it was worth it. Next we were off to another one of Lynn's recommendations, Devil's Tower National Monument. (Thanks Lynn) Little did we know that in route to Devil's Tower Tim would claim his next victim. Yes, he managed to kill another one of God's beautiful winged babies. Kayla and Emily were sitting up front this time so they got to experience it first hand. I was trying to get a little catnap
Devil's Tower
This place was really neat to see. There wasn't a whole lot to do there but it was definitely something to see. in before the next stop and all of a sudden I hear Emily and Kayla yell, Tim just killed another bird ! I had no idea that our motor home would turn out to be a weapon of mass destruction. They conveniently left that tid bit of info out of the sales brochures !! We continue in route towards Yellowstone but we must first tackle Big Horn National Park. Let me first say that the entire trip Tim has been like a little boy on Christmas morning. Every time, and I mean every single time, we pass anything that can be classified as a mammal, he is quick to let the entire RV know about it. All day, everyday, it's "There's another buffalo", "Oh, look at that cow with its baby", "There's a deer", There's a skunk", and on and on and on. He wants to see a bear (in the actual wild) so bad he can taste it. As a matter of fact he wants to see one so bad, he's began imaging that they are there. There was a small black car driving through the mountains and he spotted it from far far away. He began telling me
Beautiful Countryside
This is a countryside photo of the land between Yellowstone and Cody, Wyoming. that he thought it was a bear, the closer we got to the object the more he swore it was a bear on the run. Once we got close enough to tell that it was a car and not a bear, I thought he was going to cry. He was so disappointed, so I gave him a pep talk and we moved on. Please say a special "bear" prayer for Tim tonight that he may see a bear before we get home. We are steadily approaching Big Horn National Park and we are preparing the kids for a long drive over some pretty tough mountain ranges. We were told at the gas station that it should take us about and hour and a half to get over the mountain and all the way through the park. Well this is where the BIG surprise came and something we'll never forget. About 45 minutes into the drive, after seeing tons of beautiful mountains and lots of wildlife (no bear) we begin to see a little snow on the ground. We were like "Oh let's get out and play in it and have a little snowball fight". We thought, well we are all
He's Kinda Handy To Have Around !!
Here Tim is washing all the bugs off the RV as well as the blood and feathers from his latest victim !! in shorts with no shoes and we just needed to keep moving along. The next thing we know we go around the bend and out of nowhere we were slammed with snow !! We had just found ourselves 9666 feet in the air, in a motor home, with two kids in the middle of a mid-summer blizzard. I looked at Tim and he was slowly losing the color in his face and then he said to me "Uhhhhhh what should we do???" I was like I have no idea !! We knew that we were at the very top of the mountain and it was all downhill from there plus we were still in shock just from seeing the snow!! We pulled over at the first turn-out and sat there for a minute gathering our thoughts. As we were discussing our options, all of a sudden I saw headlights coming up the hill, they were coming the way we were needing to go so I jump out of the motor home, in my shorts and flip-flops and flag them down in the snow. The kind 75 year old man told me it was 24 degrees and the wind was blowing
Buffalo What ????
Emmy enjoying her flapjacks and buffalo bacon !! at 46 miles per hour and we needed to get out of there quickly before everything started turning to ice. Tim and I decided that we needed to keep going so we said a little prayer, he honed in on his Bobby Labonte skills and got us the heck out of there. What should have only been about an hour and a half drive ended up being almost a three hour trip to the end of the park. After this ordeal we decided we would get as far as Cody, Wyoming and pack it in for the night. Yes, you guessed it, we ended up anchoring down in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Cody and believe me, there were no complaints from anybody. We were all just happy to see dry land. Yellowstone would just have to wait another day !!
