Blythe Is., GA to Edisto Beach, SC
Blythe Island was beautiful with the campground in a forest of palm trees, pines and stately live oaks. I met my friend John and his friend Tom and we went to the beach on Sunday to enjoy the sun. It was a little cloudy when we got there but eventually the sun came out and warmed us nicely. Oscar was welcome on the beach so he enjoyed all the smells, dug some holes and barked at some of the other dogs.
We had lunch that we brought and watched the people walking along on the miles of sand, the tide was low exposing lots of walking room.
We made it back in time to have a little nap before it was time for the campfire and of course marshmallows.
Monday we walked to the lake then John went fishing on the dock while I sat there with my camera snapping away. Two fisherman came into the dock with a catch of small shrimp that they will sell to the bait shop. The very experienced Captain had a hard time getting the boat on the trailer, there was a
wind and also the "Moon Tide". The tide was going out at an incredible speed, a result of the full moon.
Then another boat was hoisted into the water from the parking lot. The boat owner backs his trailer onto the dock then a hoist gets strapped to the boat, picks it up then transports it down the dock to the opening and lowers it down. It's a neat operation, I never saw anything like this before. Pictures.
John was fishing and had several bites but nothing landed so after a time he tossed the bait, a shrimp, to the waiting seagull and we just sat on the dock and enjoyed the sun.
The next morning it was time to head for South Carolina. I packed up after a brief shower, so everything outside was damp, said my good-byes and headed north by 10:15 am.
The weather man was calling for storms with a possibility of a tornado but the sky had cleared and it was beautiful. I drove north on 95 for about an hour and a half then headed east on 17. It was a 4 lane road through the middle of nowhere so
easy driving with a chance to look around at the old houses and some abandoned farms and more beautiful old trees. As I got closer to the park the trees formed a canopy over the road and I drove through the tunnel they made.
I stopped for gas then a little shopping and landed at the state park by 1:30. I found my campsite, right next to the dune, backed in, plugged in and grabbed my chair, camera, Oscar and lunch and headed for the beach. I can see the ocean from my camper and the access path is very close so in no time we were on the beach hunting for shells.
The weather continued to hold out and the afternoon was delightful with temp in the mid 70s. As the sun was going down so did the temperature and by 5:30 it was 56 degrees. Will be chilly tonight.
I wanted to take a picture of sunset but the sun set over land behind a bunch of trees and I couldn't see it. The moon was due to rise soon and as the sun went down the clouds moved in over the ocean, so the
moon rise was blocked. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
