Halibut Tacos and Salmon Chowder
Beach Bite/Dos Rocas in Rockaway Beach, Oregon Most people that know us are very aware that trying local food plays a large part in our enjoyment of travel, and this trip has been no exception. Over the last few days in Oregon, we've especially enjoyed all of the fresh, local seafood and although I try to do tripadvisor reviews when I have time, I thought I'd mention a few of our enjoyable restaurant experiences here.
In Rockaway, Oregon we ate at the Beach Bite right on Highway 101 about half way through town on the east side of the road at the corner of N. 2nd. Ave. Actually, this family restaurant is connected with a Mexican Bar & Grill called Dos Rocas, and we ate on that side. We both had the Halibut fish tacos and they were fantastic as was the Salmon Chowder that I had with mine.
In Yachats, Oregon we parked at the first public lot on our right-hand side as we drove in as the town was busy and parking spots were not readily available. We started walking to seek out an interesting spot to eat. We stopped within a block, still on Highway 101 at a small restaurant/fish shop on the
west side of the road called the Luna Sea Fish House. It's opened daily from 8am to 9pm and is owned by Robert Anthony, a full-time commercial fisherman. In his 1939 Double Ender, the Liberty II, he fishes Salmon, Albacore Tuna, Halibut and Crab and sells it and uses it in the dishes in his Luna Sea Fish House. Chris had Grilled Albacore Tuna and chips and I had battered and fried Wild King Salmon and chips. Both dishes were some of the best fish and chips we've ever had. This tiny little restaurant only has about 10 tables for two crammed together in front of their showcase full of fresh seafood. The service was fast, efficient and friendly and the food as fresh and well prepared as you could hope for.
In Winchester Bay, Oregon, a few miles south of Reedsport, we got a take-out lunch at the Sourdough Bakery. They sell a variety of freshly baked bread products, a huge assortment of locally produced jams and spreads, chocolate, desserts, etc. plus they have a selection of sandwiches, pizza and what we ordered; Clam Chowder in a Sourdough bread bowl. I loved the store but there were no

Tonight in Reedsport, Oregon we ate at the Harbour Light Restaurant which is on the north edge of town, on the east side of the road. It's warm and inviting but crowded with about 10 tables for four and they were all full with people waiting. The two waitresses were fast, friendly and efficient and we didn't have to wait long before being seated. They have a huge blackboard across the back wall listing the local beers and wines they have as well as some of the food. They have a small blackboard they bring to your table with the daily specials as well as a menu with a huge selection of fresh seafood and local game. Chris chose the Char-grilled Salmon Salad and I had one of their specials, the Harbour Light Foil Bake (clams, mussels, prawns, Dungeness crab, Andouille sausage, potatoes and corn on the cob. Chris' salmon was fresh and deliciously prepared. All of my seafood was great, especially the crab; probably
Char-Grilled Salmon Salad
Harbour Light Restaurant, Reedsport, Oregon the best I've had since leaving Victoria over 20 years ago. The staff were all very helpful and friendly as well as the owner who came around a couple of times, checking on guests and helping clear and set tables. This is our top pick so far for a great restaurant experience, at a very reasonable price.
