Though Newport and Charleston (previous blog) are two nearby ports on Oregon's central coast, they are quite different. Jon and Lynn are two sixty-something, retired, PhD ecologists seeking the wisdom from the natural world that can only come from first-hand experience with things and events. Our current arrangement is to keep a house as a home-base near Ithaca New York, where we have lived for the past 35+ years, spend summers in our trailer around New England (where Lynn's extended family resides), return to Ithaca for the fall and early winter, and depart for warmer climes after the Christmas-New Years holidays. Tram to the medical center.

This aerial tramway was built to carry medical personnel and patients to the Oregon Health Sciences Center, but it is also a tourist attraction.

The tram cars meeting at mid-point.

The two cars rode on a single pull cable so the weight of the down-hill car helped offset the weight of the up-hill car making the system very efficient.

This enormous store (really a library with a coffee shop) is a must on every visit.

There are some great trails in Portland up and down the Willamette River. Rob, Lynn, and Jon were joined by Brian, Rob's longtime friend.
