Oregon…another time and place. So far we have only visited California and if you measure the US by this then you get a very skewed view of the US. Oregon is a much more relaxed state and the pace of life is not so frenetic. In Eugene, we met up with a chiro friend of Malcolm’s, GL, who put us up on her lounge room floor of which we were really appreciative (far warmer and more comfortable than the tent) We went to this beaut little vegetarian restaurant called ‘Laughing Planet’…our stomachs were really thankful for some light food. I think a franchise of these could do very well in Australia. I was going to catch up with my cousin, Lynette, who also lives, or sometimes lives in Eugene but she, being a person of no ... read more

Geo: 44.0499, -123.089We are now in Eugene having spent five enjoyable but frustrating days in the USA. We landed in San Francisco with great expectations. Our Hotel, the Carlton was great and was within easy walking and Cable Car distance of all. The one drawback was that we did not have our luggage. We reported this through American Airlines and expected that it would arrive at any moment. However, we were determined it would not spoil our time here. On the first day we went to Fisherman's wharf. The original areas here were great but the new Pier 39 was much too touristy and over the top for us. We had a great lunch at Fisherman's Grotto, the original restaurant there where I had Dungeness Crab which is a specialty. The huge piles of them outside ... read more

On Sunday 2nd March Gillian arrived to stay for a week. She had been at a conference in San Diego and flew into Eugene. Her flight arrived on time and although tired I showed her our local supermarket which is quite a sight in itself! Gillian manged to spend the next few days enjoying a well earned rest at the house whilst I worked. In the evenings we visited the mall, a couple of local wineries and had a drink in a local wine bar with Tracy and Julia. I finished school on Wednesday and we headed straight for the coast. We drove first to Florence and then north to Yachats. I was so excited as when we stopped just as we were entering Florence a little otter popped its head out the water to look ... read more

Not quite there yet... I love to travel and in my excitement about going to Europe and Mexico soon I got a little too excited and joined a travel blog. But don't be worried, eventually I will start my blog and it will be amazing. At least this is my undying hope. Anyway I'm going to London and Paris for spring break (since I am a full time student my travel time is somewhat limited). It's my first trip to Europe so it will be pretty exciting and then I will be going to Puebla, Mexico this summer to study abroad for about 5 weeks. until then... ... read more

Eugene is the home the University of Oregon which is noted for its Art programs. When you arrive, the first thing you might notice is a lot of community art everywhere. So, I took a day and just walked around downtown taking pictures of this or that - whatever caught my interest. The camera had a smudge on the lens - something I didn't notice until later. Sorry about that.... read more
