Plentywood fair grounds Had a good nights rest in the fairground camp at Plentywood. On the road by 8.30am for another long drive.
First stop was Sidney where we picked up a few grocery items. Back to the USA prices - yippee! Even out here in the middle of nowhere prices are still cheaper than Canada (although the scenery doesn't quite match that of Banff!).
From about Sidney on the scenery did change and it became more interesting. Plenty of rolling hills, dairy cattle and green farming pastures along the way.
Made a stop at Glendive where there is a State Park - Makoshika State Park. Checked out the visitor centre which has a self guided tour that chronicles 74 million years of Eastern Montana history. Includes displays of fossils, a Triceratops skull and other artifacts.
The area around here is known as The Badlands. Millions of years of erosion, wind and rain have created these strange looking mountain slopes. Dinosaur fossils can be found here at this park. There are also campgrounds in the park - lots of people out camping when we visited.
The Badlands...some call it "The Land God Forgot", others call it one of the most

Town of Sidney mysterious and beautiful places on Earth, still others liken its rugged terrain and awe inspiring rock formations to a lunar landscape. No matter what one sees in the Badlands, one thing is for certain it's worth stopping for!
Next stop was lunch at the small town of Wiabux. Made sandwiches and checked out the small visitors centre - there is a small brewery downtown so after lunch we headed in to have a look. The Beaver Creek Brewery is open for a few hours a day, 4 days a week. There were a group of bikers in the saloon having a coldie and relaxing when we turned up. This is a friendly place and obviously popular with the town locals. You can buy a growler full of beer here for $9 which is a good price for 1/2 gallon of beer.
Geoff and I shared a pint of their Choc Cherry Wheat beer along with a bag of hot popcorn before heading out on the road again.
Soon we crossed the Border into North Dakota and pretty much were into the grasslands and badlands of this state. Stopped by the Painted Canyon which is part of the

Spent the night in Dickinson - a large oil mining town which has a couple of camp sites but they were full with permanents living here. We arrived at Dickinson just before 7pm and were hoping to get settled before dark - no such luck. One of the locals told us to stay the night at the truck stop or Walmart. We went to the truck stop - never seen so many trucks in one place! Settled on staying at Walmart where trucks and other RVs were as well.
Had a late night electrical storm come through which provided Geoff with some good photo opportunities.
Stocked up on a few more groceries including some icecream and a dozen beers! Cheers it's a good night here in North Dakota! 😊
Clocked up about 450 km today on our adventure.
