For 3 and a half weeks it has been my job to be a stay at home dad. Janine continues to work very hard as the registrar for Lutheridge+Lutherock Ministries and often works long hours. Being home for 3 straight weeks with two teenagers has given me a true appreciation for homemakers and dedicated parents everywhere. On top of the every day chores and responsibilities, I have also used this time to clean, organize, and make repairs around the house. It has felt so good to put some TLC into our home and family. Here are some of the home activities I have taken pleasure in... + Cooking in the kitchen and on the grill - We continue to enjoy the fish I caught in Washington, freshly made salsa, and blueberry scones for breakfast were a ... read more

Most of you know that my Mom and Dad have a summer home close to us here in Arden. Normally, I have to schedule time with them on my day off or hunt for a free night to share a family dinner. My sabbatical schedule has kept me on the go to be sure, but August has been a good month to catch up with my parents. I have especially enjoyed hanging out with my Dad. We played a great round of golf at high vista and check in about every other day. We have also worked together on different projects at each other's homes. And sometime we just go for a ride in the truck. Mom has helped me with some window treatments and taken Katherine out shopping for new clothes. Good girl time from ... read more

The canopy tour with Katherine was definitely the hightlight of the 3rd week of July. The rest of my time at home was mostly spent on cooking, cleaning, gardening, relaxing, and paling around with the kids. During this week Andrew decided that we should have a Harry Potter movie marathon. The goal was to watch a different Harry Potter movie every night for 7 straight nights and then go see the final movie (Deathly Hallows - Part 2) in the big theater on Friday night. It was a courageous and admirable goal, but life got in the way, Janine had to work long days at Lutheridge, and the kids were distracted by opportunities to play outside with their friends. It ended up that Andrew and I managed to squeeze in 7 movies in 8 days, but ... read more

The last 3 days have been rather quiet. The 4 of us just laid around the house and took it easy. On Sunday (7/17) we worshipped together downtown at First Presbyterian Church. We were impressed with the music and liturgy and I personally enjoyed the sermon preached by Pastor Mark Burnham. I have appreciated getting to know him through the Christian Discipleship Center and hope our collegial friendship continues to grow. While we were in worship we saw our friend Vance Reese who was filling in for the Director of Music while he was away. (Isn't Asheville nice? You never know when you are going to bump into a friend around town.) After church we stayed for a bit of fellowship and spoke with another familiar face from the Christian Discipleship Center, Nancy McNeill. We returned ... read more

The rioting and protests in Athens caused a great amount of traffic to build up in and around the city. Our taxi driver agressively pushed his way through and followed a circuitous route to the airport. The workforce at the airport was on strike so our flight was delayed several times. We eventually boarded and made the long flight back over the Atlantic to the U.S.. Traveling west, the hours passed, but the sun seemingly stood still. It reminded me of Joshua's long day (Joshua chapter 10) when the Israelites fought against the Amorites. We arrived in Charlotte just before midnight and checked into a hotel for the night. We drove home on Thursday morning, unpacked, and had dinner that night with Mom and Dad Webb. There was lot's to tell. I made a quick trip ... read more
