A day to behold in so many ways. Enduring the bad and enjoying the good. We readied our RV and departed our house in the late afternoon on Wednesday. Our check-in time for the Rally was scheduled to begin at 8::00 AM on Thursday so we decided to get a head start. We slept on the NY Thruway at the Rest Area closest to the exit for Syracuse. During the night, we could hear the pitter-patter of rain drops on the rig. Soothing and restful for a relaxing sleep. Discouraging and unpleasant and revolting for an RV Rally. The rains came down - ALL DAY - in torrents. The workers guided us into our cramped site (when you have thousands of RV's to park, you don't get big lots) which was located on a grassy (rain turns it into mud) hilltop. They finally couldn't use the saturated grounds for anymore vehicles (12 had to be towed out) so now there are 300 rigs parked at the huge Mall in Syracuse. We got settled and donned our rain gear. There were shuttles running to transport us to the main area where the registration area was located. The shuttle ended up being a Lulu Swims
Our pond next to our RV big, old school bus that must have been for pre-schoolers. The aisle was 6" wide, the seats close to the floor and the backs extra high. No matter, it was dry inside. We arrived at the entrance to the main grounds and hiked onward to the registration building...through small lakes and ponds!! The rain was heavy, accumulating and cold. Yuck! Once registered, we were given sticky numbered badges along with our name badges. We were told that our numbers would match up with someone else and if we found that "matching number" person, we would win a prize. Whoopee. We had no good place to stick this badge. I had it on the strings of my lanyard, on my name badge, on my jacket, on my pant leg..each time I moved it, it ripped and faded. Who really cares! Serious Rally people...that's who! They wander the crowds with their numbers on the top of yardsticks, on their chest with flashing lights, calling out their numbers, etc. They are serious. They want to win! I think you only win a T-shirt...you would think you were winning a Lamborghini! Good Grief! Anyway, since never being at a rally, we had to figure
Checking In
We are all in the same "boat"! out our next move. Our program guide listed a multitude of seminars to attend so I figured that was what we should do. Cory was not exactly thrilled but couldn't come up with a better plan. We went to two seminars. They were good & informative but the bottom line; they were trying to sell you a product. We had to slug through the ponds and lakes and pelting rain to navigate from one hall to another. This rally is at the NY State Fairgrounds so we are talking a huge expanse. Next on the agenda: drag through the entire exhibit hall. It was good but mostly, it was DRY! Bought nothing. Cory found the Blue Ox tow bar booth. Most of you can relate to our tow bar problem that occurred after that bad rock damaged our RV compartment when we were traveling to Florida. He has been "communicating" with the customer service guy and now the CEO. We thought we had reached a resolution and then that did a turn around. Cory is persistent and will never give up or in. The gal in the photo is the daughter of the Vice President of the company....they agree with
Our Shuttle
Lulu loves the bus us so will continue our plight with us. Thus - the pursuit continues. Atta Boy, Cory! After swimming back to our RV, looking like drowned rats, we called our friends, Diane & Walt. We had planned to get together at some point and this evening seemed the best. We arranged to meet at the Turning Stone Casino. It rained horrifically as we drove to our destination. What a wonderful respite to see our good friends again. They looked wonderful and just being with them again was superb. We sat together, sipping our cocktails, enjoying each moment we were sharing. "There are Good Ships & Wood Ships".....we so appreciate their friendship. After our jaws ached from talking and laughing, we did a little gambling. Cory didn't find his luck on the crap table like usual so played the slots with enough luck that he kept what he brought. Me, on the other hand, figured I had lost about $75.00. When I cashed out, the cashier gal said 291...must be I had $29.01 left is all. RATS...whoa....what's this? She handed me $291.00. WOW...I was a winner and didn't know it. Yippee! Who cares if it's raining....not me. The sun was shining at
my slot machine. All is well in the world! Good friends, Good times and winning money. What a terrific way to end a stormy day.
