Niagara Falls
No....Lulu: Don't jump! Howdy, Howdy! I've missed all of you since our time together in Brimfield so thought I'd drop by to say "Howdy". Hope your summer is progressing nicely and you are enjoying each day. We've had plenty of rain this month so really appreciate it when ol' Mr. Sun decides to spend the day. Everything is lush and green and bountiful but enough is enough. Bring on the "rays"! We have stayed busy since Brimfield. Of course, emptying our trailer is a big job and Cory did it all alone. I don't think we are having as much fun as we used to with this hobby of ours. We used our empty trailer to get a new mattress for our upstairs bedroom which Nate (our Mennonite contractor) remodeled while we were in Florida. We found out that a Queen size mattress didn't fit up our hallway (after it was lodged there). Cory had to remove an overhang so we could haul it upstairs....and then had to repair the removal work. Whew! Too much work! We bought a new carpet and put it down ourselves....that wasn't fun either. We are trying to put the room into some sort of semblance but it is taking time AND work. After this room is done, I have a feeling we may have to perk up the other bedroom upstairs. Florida can't come any too soon...we need a rest already!
Because our trailer was still empty, we decided to make some changes at our Co-Op. Cory has always said that I have too many smalls all over our bigger items in our booth so no one can see the better, bigger stuff. So.....20 banana boxes later, we emptied the smalls out of our booth and hauled them home. We still have a locked display case that can hold some smalls but our booth area has been cleared of them. Some I'll sell on Ebay. The rest we think we shall take to a flea market and "give" it away. Our house (back rooms) has become our warehouse again....filled with boxes of stuff! We never seem to get ahead of it. Treading water or peddling junk...call it what you may. We've been doing all the routine tasks: vehicle inspections, dentist/doctor appointments, etc. The police stopped Cory the other day and reminded him our van needed inspection. It was due last October!! So what's nine months!! Our Friends
The Blues Brothers and Barbara & Cheryl Oh, brother. Next stop: the Big House! I have been going back and forth to the dentist getting a crown on that tooth that lost it's entire side when we were traveling home from Florida. It's a miracle he can crown it. After drilling and grinding around on it, there was just a little prong left. Talk about a Snaggletooth! I had my routine visit with my dermatologist. Fortunately, I had no problems and nothing for him to lob off (knock on wood). But wait....my mistake. I asked him about the "As Seen on TV" stuff to remove skin tags. He said he didn't know what was in it so wouldn't recommend it. I told him I had a few small tags around my neck and couldn't wear jewelry comfortably. My insurance won't cover "vanity" needs. No problem - he grabbed some scissors and snipped them off....OW!!!!!! No numbing....nothing. Just snip, snip, snip.....OUCH!!!! It wasn't really too bad (but still kind of bad) because he did it fast ..... but I won't tell him about anything else -- even if I start looking like the Elephant Man. Last week was the annual mammogram misery. My neighbor and I go together
so we don't have to suffer alone. In a couple weeks, both Cory and I have appointments with my doctor. Cory's doctor retired and joined the Peace Corps so now he is going to go to my doctor. Keeping it all in the family. Top it all off: this is my colonoscopy year. Oh, Happy Day. That will be later in the summer...no sense in having all the fun all at once. I hope you have been having this much fun, also.
Now to the meat of my blog.....I kind of got off course there. Needing a rest from all the above, this past Saturday, we decided to go to the Allentown Art Festival in Buffalo. We went to it last year and really enjoyed ourselves. At the last moment, we packed a suitcase and planned to stay overnight at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls. The weather was wet and gloomy as we reached Buffalo so we headed on to the casino. RATS! The enormous casino hotel was completely booked. So much for last minute plans. Okay...we went to the Sheraton. Same story...full! Onto the Holiday Inn...same, again. Hampton Inn...same!.....NOOOoooooo. Finally, we got the last room Allentown Art Festival
Hundreds of Vendors & Thousands of Visitors at an Econolodge. This is when you always want an RV. They priced-gouged us for $140.00 and it was a dump!! Oh, well. Time to make lemonade, again. First, we walked down to see Niagara Falls. Lulu wanted to take a swim. Foolish girl! We were amazed to see the hundreds and hundreds of Indian tourists there. It was just like we were in New Delhi. Even the restaurants were all Indian cuisine. Next treat, we arranged to meet my college room-mate friends, Barbara & Cheryl. We dined together at TGIF. Wonderful being with them, again. We have been friends since 1962 and have shared some good times together over the years. Our last perk was the casino. I headed to the slots and Cory went his way. After three hours, we found each other. I had managed to win 32 cents! But...and this important...I played for 3 hours without loosing the money that Cory gave me. And then there is Mr.Lucky. He never fails! He won on the slots but also had his usual success on the crap table. His method on the crap table is "Bet on the Hard Six". So....try it. It always works for him. We
strutted happily back to the dump. Fortunately, we were exhausted and fell asleep fast and left first thing in the morning. Yesterday was warmer and sunny. A perfect day to stroll around the art festival. It draws thousands of people so you have to like crowds or you won't like it. They have music and food as well as all the exquisite creations for sale. There were several mansions along the street to tour which we did. We ended at a sidewalk table at the same bar we visited last year. After walking almost a million miles, it was a wonderful respite. My legs celebrated. Our weekend ended with our family: at Lory & Jay's house for a supper-time cook out. Good food with great people. Life was fun, again!
This Thursday (thru Sunday) we are going to a Good Sam RV Rally in Syracuse, N.Y. We have never been to a rally so it should be a special treat. The entertainers will be Reba McIntyre and Wayne Newton. it will be just like Las Vegas! They also want everyone to bring their marriage certificate so we can all renew our vows together and ultimately be in the Guinness Police & Bar
High in the Sky and our final resting place. Book of World Records. Hope you all had a chance to read my epistle of our elopement when we first said our vows....another time to do it again. Yippeee. Actually, we renewed our vows on our fifth anniversary in a church in Belmont, NY. We were going to keep it up but never did. Here's our chance, again. We also hope to see our Florida friends, Walt & Diane, while we are there. They will be more fun to see than Reba & Wayne. I'll keep you posted on all the activities we encounter at the rally so stay tuned. You weren't with us when we eloped but you can be at this ceremony. Please join us for this celebration. See you there.
