Hehe! The excitement is growing. Graham and I have been doing our last minute New York things before our big departure. I guess it hasn't been very real up until this point -- but we've been planning this trip for what, a year and a half now. Its been such a big part of our lives that I guess I never thought of it as this big event. But now its almost here and there are like a million things to do because we only have 5 more days in the City. We've been hanging out with our friends a lot, saying goodbye to people. WE hung out in Time Square twice this weekend, going to the ESPN Zone and the Loews Theatre. We've been going to that movie theatre for 3 years now, I can't ... read more

Well... this is my last night here in the states. I just wanted to say "see ya later" to everyone. And also I wanted to thank all my friends and family for giving me such nice send-offs... I really will miss you guys. The hommies in LA took me out for sushi... wonderful. My dad and the family had a nice bbq at the house sat. night before I left for NY the next morning. And C.Tan took me to get some soul food in Harlem... Let me say that you guys don't make it easy to leave home for 7 months. Anyways... wish me luck, stay in touch, and we'll catch up when I return in March. Sincerely, Serkan enjoy the pics.... ... read more

Guys! I love New York!! have spent a week here since camp finished and its so cool! been doing all the touristy stuff - statue of liberty, ground zero and the empire state building - the view was amazing! the people here are really cool as well - friendly and helpful. its definitely good to have an accent in america!! have mastered the subway - its not really that hard! and its funny to watch the locals get worried when they tell you that you're on the train heading to Queens instead of the one heading to '79th st b/w amsterdam and broadway' haha!! i wasnt fazed at all, but they were!!! also checked out a few museums - the Museum of Natural History - I saw the dinosaurs, yay!! and the metropolitian museum of Art ... read more

Our first day in New York we went on a bit of a shopping spree as Dave wanted to take advantage of the cheaper prices in the US compared with 'Rip Off Britain'. He was beginning to worry that one back pack and a couple of shipped boxes wouldn't quite be enough for a couple of years in England. On loading ourselves up with a sufficient amount of clothes and a new laptop we decided the next day that we had time for a bit of sight-seeing. We headed first to Wall Street and marvelled at the huge number of armed police that could fit into such a small area. We then boarded a Circle Line ferry and headed out to the Statue of Liberty, followed by Ellis Island (where all of the US' immigrants entered ... read more

So after a greuling 12 hour overnight, freezing cold bus ride we made it to New York City!!! The city was amazing, not everything we expected it to be but it was still a good 2 weeks we spent there. We did all the touristy things such as Staten Island ferry so we could see the statue of liberty. I think we did this on the worst possible day as it was so smoggy!!! we caught the ferry on a sunday so you wouldn't expect there to be so much smog but unfortunately there was :( We also had a look aroung ground zero, wall street and the financial district including the first governent building, New york stock exchange, St peters church which was the church accross the street from the 2 towers, it was a ... read more

New York Manhattan is a city that at first take I did not like. But after I gave it another week I found that there were many things to like and so many different sides to the city that I had to reconsider what made a good metropolis. To its credit it really does buzz off its own energy. This is a city for people with energy and ideas. Every day I have seen someone creating a new crazy new idea or product. This place is ruthless to those that try, but many persist and some have made their way. For those products that are successful, they will be succesful anywhere in the world. The streets are covered witih the brands that have survived this bear pit and they include: LG, iPod, Nike, GMC.... Most of ... read more

On arriving in NYC I decided to rough it and stay at one of the Manhattan hostels. Where ever I go I am trying to find accommodation that is relatively close to the action. With no where to relax in the dorm, I jumped on the train and headed to Time Square. My first few moments in the square were rather disappointing. This part of the city is nothing like I expected and its not a great place to visit, except if you escape off the side streets into a thearte or bar. In all the cities I have travelled I noticed that there has an excessive amount of civil construction work being done. With summer being the only time most of the cities have decent weather I have come to expect a little chaos. This ... read more
