Sunday night, unable to get play tickets we wanted, we saw the new Will Ferrell movie, "Everything Must Go," at the AMC on 42nd St. and in spite of a theater full of people expecting a comedy and laughing at some very unfunny things, we really enjoyed it, depressing as it is. What one might expect from a NY audience, with talking, laughing, texting, etc., this was the first time I encountered such rudeness. But aside from that it was interesting to see Ferrell in his first serious role and heartbreaking to see a life fall apart. We stopped back by Auntie Anne's Pretzels where Emily experienced her first pretzel dog, (thank you, Kathryn!). If you haven't tried one, do! They are amazing!
Monday the rains came again, with temps in the 50's to 60's. Also I need to add that the day before arrival, Emily re-injured her most recently broken foot and is in mild to moderate pain most of the time. I went out early and got us tickets for "Rock of Ages," and then we headed over to 52nd and 11th to check out Daily Show tickets. We talked to some guys working there who told us

As good the second time! that tickets are almost impossible to get, and we decided it just wasn't worth going back over later in the day for the 2-3 hour wait to maybe get in. So we went back toward Times Square, ate Mexican food at Chevy's on 42nd and 8th, and went to see "Something Borrowed" at the 42nd St. Regal Cinema! Great movie, we loved it! We came back by the Junior's bakery in search of the best cheesecake Emily has ever had, which was sent to her by Maggie during finals from all of us. (Thank you, Maggie!) But they didn't have the same one. I guess it's just a mail order thing. We got some cupcakes (awful...I didn't even finish mine!) and headed home to get ready for the play.
"Rock of Ages" is just one of the best times on Broadway! I loved it just as much the second time! They are making a movie of it, which I can't imagine could be as much fun, but I highly recommend seeing it in any form! Great 80's music and wild energy! As we left, we stumbled upon John's Pizza and went in to the coolest restaurant, with the best
brick oven pizza, we agreed, that we've ever eaten, and great ambiance. Emily appears to be having a nice break from school and hopefully not in her foot.
Tuesday we decided to give her foot a rest so she stayed home until about 4. I went and got tickets to "Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway," ran some errands including Barnes and Noble on 5th Ave, Magnolia Bakery, on 6th Ave., for the best cupcakes in NY, got a ticket for "Mamma Mia" for Thursday night and picked up a few things at the grocery store. (I feel so native!) A little bit later, (unable to stay home due to ADHD, ha!), I took off to explore Hell's Kitchen which is the neighborhood just to the west of where I live, and an area I'd yet to check out. It's much more gritty than the other direction and it's amazing how much the atmosphere can change in just one street, but that's true in any city. At the last minute we decided to go to a movie, as Emily was a little stir crazy too, and saw all but ten minutes of "Bridesmaids" which was much better
Roxy
After the cheeseburger... than I ever imagined it would be! We didn't, however, figure in enough time and had to leave about 10 minutes before it was over to make it to "Rain" in time! We were practically running which was really good for Emily's foot, not...but we were laughing so hard it made up for it. Well...I was laughing.
"Rain" was wonderful, even though I'd seen it at the Walton Arts Center a few years ago. Who ever gets tired of hearing the Beatles? And this band is amazing. Fortunately we raised our daughter well and she is a huge fan! We rocked out all night and had a blast! We ended the day at Roxy, with the best cheeseburger in NY!
Em's a trooper, making the most of the trip in spite of the pain!
