So...Thursday night, before Emily arrived, I went to see "Jerusalem" which has some Tony nominations and has been on my list from the beginning. The accents are so thick I can't understand a lot of the dialogue, and it's three hours long! The acting is brilliant and I understand the best actor nomination but I think I just miss something with some of these plays. This is basically about an old hippie, drug and alcohol addict, living in an RV, in England, and the people, mostly younger, that come in and out of his life. The greatness of these plays escapes me but give me a good musical, as silly as can be, and I love it!!
Emily arrived at almost one in the morning and she was a sight for sore eyes!! Hungry and pumped we took off for Times Square to find something to eat! Well, in the city that never sleeps, there are very few places to eat at that time of day! We walked a while and ended up at McDonald's (she ate, I didn't)! We came home and went to bed about 2:30 so we slept in on Friday. We ate lunch at "Mother Burger"
Emily!!
First NYC meal! McDonald's in Times Square, 1 AM, Friday the 13th! which is in the outdoor part of the complex where I live. She met Chris Barlow and a friend for dinner at 5:30 and then went to see Suzanne Vega in a one woman play about Carson McCullers. I met Stacey and Johnny at L'ybane, a wine bar and restaurant on 8th Ave., went to the Hilton for dessert, and went to see "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" with Daniel Ratcliffe and John Larouquette. It was a good old fashioned musical and we all enjoyed it. Not on the top tier for me but definitely on the second tier. And lots of Tony nominations.
Saturday morning Shelley and Jason brought the kids to the city for the first time and we had so much fun. We met them at Grand Central at 11 and with four adults and four children were able to keep track of them fairly well through the throngs of Times Square although I think we were all pretty nervous! We ate lunch at Planet Hollywood and then went to see "Mary Poppins" on Broadway! It was wonderful and the kids were enthralled! After the play we took them to the largest Toys
At Mother Burger!
Love the background! R Us which was a complete madhouse, but they got to look around and Olivia and Jason got to ride the indoor ferris wheel. Emily parted with us at this point and found a place to eat on her way home, where she sat next to "Mr. Big" aka Chris Noth from Sex in the City, The Good Wife, and currently in Championship Season on Broadway! She's had a better celebrity sighting than I have in 36 hours and I've been here 6 weeks!
The Beaudoin's and I headed back to Grand Central, ate dinner at Junior's, and took the subway to Dylan's Candy Bar on 2nd Avenue and 60th. This is a three story candy store and a great place to take kids. They each got their treats and we headed back to Grand Central to make the 9:07 train back to CT. There were totally exhausted but absolutely wonderful, as always, with barely a fuss or whine to be heard. Amazing children with great parents! It was so fun to experience their first trip to the city!!
Sunday morning Johnny and Stacey picked us up and took us to breakfast at Sarabeth's at the Chelsea Market,
First Subway ride!
All by herself! To Greenwich Village to meet Chris and Dan! which is a great indoor space in Chelsea with all kinds of food shops. I just realized that we didn't get a single picture. Oh well...Then they took us on a driving tour of the island, along the Hudson River, past the new World Trade Center, up the FDR past the Brooklyn Bridge, through the Helmsley tunnel and across town to our apt. It was a fun morning and I can't believe I don't have a picture of the market or of them with Emily.
Emily and I then strode up and down the "9th Ave. International Food Festival" which was right outside our door between 42nd and 57th in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood. Every kind of food imaginable, clothes, jewelry, etc. and hundreds of people. It so reminded me of all the festivals Randy and I used to go to with our friends in Chicago almost every weekend. She got a burger, I got some jewelry, and what had begun as a rainy day turned into sunshine.
A great way to spend my last weekend in New York!

Finishing strong!
Sounds as though the last weekend was as action-packed and exciting as the first, and I'm sure you'll end this adventure with a bang. I am so very happy that it's been all (and more) than you expected, and as I've said before, I am so proud of you for living your dream! The next steps in Ft. Worth may not be so glamorous, but I hope that you are excited about what lies ahead of you. I miss you, friend. Church is just not the same without you.
