Hey guys!
Well were down to our final leg of our holiday, all of us are running pretty low on cash so we have bought our flight to the UK forward a week and fly out tomorrow. It's been fun, not really one of my fav's but has still been good.
We stayed in a Hostel a little out of town... ok ok it was pretty much the Bronx but we didnt know that at the time? It was a nice Hostel very modern and funky, with a pool room, big screen TV and lots of other areas to chill out in, now the down fall to this funky Hostel was that it is a FAMILY Hostel so the first few days we were sharing a room with 12 other people! Including 1 70+ year old woman who did nothing but bitch to us about everything, noise, mess, you name it! Along with all the children on Jesus camp we cancelled the rest of our booking there and move a little closer to Town. Got ourselves nice and close, just off the side of Time Square which is handy.
Our friend Lauren (Loz to those who know who i'm talking about)
M&M world!
Mmmm chocolate! came over from the UK to meet up and party with us. First day we met up and just had a wander round Time Square, very cool place kind of puts me in mind of Vegas with all the big flashy signs and billboards. People running round everywhere, yelling stuff from the sides trying to give away "free" tickets to this and that... That night the Hostel was putting on a pub crawl, we thought we would give it a go see if there really was anyone staying at the Hostel our age? Turned out to be a pretty good night had a few crew there and drunk ourselves silly, got onto a bit of kareoke which wasnt such a good idea for those who have herd me sing :P ha ha!
Netx day after nursing a nice hang over we managed to get ourselves out of bed and do some more site seeing and shopping, i got myself a lap top so i can keep you kids updated with all our crazy shenanigans. Then we headed down to Wall street to see what all the fuss was about, besides lots of men in suits and a big ass building
Hostel Pub Crawl
Whats that over there? not really much there? But we did jump on the Staton Island ferry so we could check out the Statue of Liberty. Not really as big as i thought she would be...big but not real big? for those thinking of going there, DO NOT take the site seeing boats there cause they cost about $50 and the Staton Island ferry is free and gets just as close! After that we went and bought tickets for our first ever Baseball Game with the NY Yankee's v Texas Rangers. Was so cool to get down there and see a real live game, not that i'm much of a sport person but "When in Rome". Got some cheap tickets but still awesome seats, and of course had to get a hat to support the Yankee's! They even had a win just for us, apparently they have been playing pretty shit and weren't expected to win, but they did! Dont know what the final score was but apprently something good? However the next night they played the Red Sox and got there asses kicked so i put it down to our support on that night contributed to there win! Ha!
The next day we
went to do some more site seeing and of course shopping, we went to Ground Zero site, not much to see but a big empty space, with some work going on around it. Was sad to find out that there was NO memorial for what happened on 9/11? They are still yet to decide what they want to do and put up. Apparently they did have something but when they started to rebuild the twin towers they took it down? From there we also went to see the Empire State building, we were going to go up but the line was around the block and was going to take about an hour... i lined up enough in Disney thanks!
We were also in NY for 4th of July. We went down to South Street Seaport just on the water there to watch the fireworks which was cool, although got a little bit of rain which put a dampener on things (pardon the pun) so got very humid cause it has been very warm here being summer. But were good to see, they went for a while and had lots of cool fireworks.
Also went and saw my first Broadway show
- Chicago which was very cool, walked around Central Park in the stinking heat, found the Original Hooters after walking round for about an hour, and went and saw the best Candy Store in the world called Dylan's. Two stories of candy and chocolate... i was like a kid in some kind of a store! ha ha! Blew about $25 on lollies and chocolate but all worth it! Was like being in Willy Wonkas! Lollies everywhere!
Had another bender night for Loz's last night in NY before she headed off, was pretty hard trying to find a decent bar on a Sunday after a long weekend, apparently everyone just lays low... pfft! Amatures! But we found one that had a few people in, and suprise suprise we made friends with the bar staff again and got smashed with them... ahh good times!
Last night we layed low after sleeping off our hang overs all day we went to the flicks and caught Hancock and Kung Fu Panda, he he were so naughty we snuck into the 2nd movie for free! And that about sums up NYC for us...
We fly out to London tomorrow and go see the rellies, then
it's back to the real world and work for us all 😞 Going to struggle getting up before 12pm thats for sure!
Well shall keep you posted xxx Mel & The Girls
