So were still in Canada eh absolutly loving it. Can completly understand why people stay here as long as they do, i don't want to leave myself! Well Whistler this is the case anyway, Vancouver not so much bit of a dirty hole if you ask me, kinda reminds me of a bad version of Northbridge , well actually just NB with a few more bums and junkies?
We had a few days in Vancouver sussed the place out. The hostel we were staying in was nice, not much vibe though but clean rooms and air con! So we hit the hostel across the road instead which is meant to have shitter rooms but a better bar. First night they had a Summer Beach party night, basically just staff and kooky Canadians dressed up as you can see by the photos attached...
Sussed out the town during the day, went to Granville Island had a wander, Went riding in Stanley park. Getting good at this bike riding thing. Got a hot tip to find Amsterdam Cafe just off Granville, and yes Amsterdam Cafe is what your thinking but without the weed. But even then you can "apparently" can buy it from
Amsterdam Cafe
Yep just what your thinking... a flat across the road. Well you know from what i herd??? Anyway the idea is that you go in and smoke weed and chill with all the other stonners and they have munchie food. Gave us a taste of whats ahead for the real Amsterdam.
Took the coach up to Whistler on the 4th day were only going to stay for 3 nights but just cant bring ourselves to leave so were here till tomorrow then back to Van then fly out to New York early Monday monring. Dont want to leave Whistler have been having the best adventures up here!
We came up Thursday by coach 3 hour trip and for once this whole trip i didnt want it to end, it just blew us away so picturesque, green, mountainy, just like looking at a post card! So beautiful as you can see by the photos, went totally snap happy! Stayed in a cool back packers just outside of Whistler Village down in Whistler Creek. Still walking distance from a couple of cool pubs and a nice hike up to the Village too, although we only did that once as it took an hour! Been really great weather
fisrt day we just wandered round sussing the place out, then booked the ZipTrek Line for the next day. This was a great way to see the real beauty of Whistler. It's like a big ass flying fox well actually 5 of them. You tree top walk from line to line and zip down to the next, so much fun! That night we just hung out with the ppl in our hostel and drank ourselves silly as you do...
Next day even with my nasty hang over we managed to get out of bed and go up to The Glacier which is the main possibly only decent skiiing spot in the summer... my god it was amazing! Took the gondola (chair lift) right up the top which took about 45 mins but was worth it just to see the change from green and sunny, to snow and ice eevrywhere! Not even cold, i was expecting it to be freezing but nope. Little breeziy on the way back down. Was so surreal finally seeing and touching snow. Of course first thing we did was throw a snowball at Nicola then nearly stack it about ten times just trying to walk! We
Trek to the Village
Hows the serenity... saw 2 bears on the way back down to the Village which we were stoked about cause its bear country and we were still yet to see one... photos attached.
Yesterday just topped all our fun off as we got approached in Dusty's (local pub) by some other aussies the night before asking us if we wanted to be part of there Dragon Boat racing team, naturally after a beer we were all in before even asking what the hell is Dragon Boat racing?? Quick explanation is just like a rowing team thing, they are making it a yearly tradition now here at Whistler, (apparently a big sport here, i've never heard of it?) Anyway we were just to be part of there community team just for fun and needed numbers. We of course obliged and joined in the next day. Early start for us having to be up at 7am, but what a day! We got there and there are professional teams everywhere around Alter Lake (also what they classify as there local beach) all doing there moring ritual excersizes and warm ups while we stood around looking for the food van and beer tent. It was another beautiful
day in Whistler about 32 degrees and not a cloud in site! We had 3 races in total we were meant to race against another local made up team but they didnt have enough people (20 per boat) and neighter did we so we joined forces and took on one of the pro teams. 3 races all up through out the day and we won all of them! Kicken ass i tell you! was great fun...now i'm not saying that they let us win, i mean come on they are trained pros at this but they may of given us a bit of an advantage somewhere along the line, but i prefer to just say we were just that GREAT! So now i have found my calling if i ever want to come back here to work im going to be a professional dragon boat racer!
We were meant to check out of our hostel that day and we were going to extend for another night, but apparently some brat camp was coming in for the weekend so we had to be out.... again homeless for the night wasnt a good way to end our Whister adventure, but being the
nice people that all seem to be up here the crew that invited us along to the dragon boat racing were nice enough to put us up in there appartment they have here. So we tagged along with them all for a BBQ they had on top of a mountain, good lord what a hard job treking up there in thongs, took us about 30 mins all directly up hill along one off the mountain bike tracks! But was it ever worth it for the view that over looks the town, golf course and lake below! Gorgeous! So we had our little portable BBQ and some beers till the sun went down (doesnt get dark here till 10pm suck on that day light savings!) then we hit the town with everyone...after that its a little blank for me but lucky i took some photos so looked like a good night. Ha ha
And that brings us to today... were heading back to Vancouver today to stay for tonight and then fly out to New York early tomorrow. Dont want to leave but have to go meet Loz over in NY and party it up make the most of what little
Me taking on the trek!
Upside down....upside down! cash we all have left before having to get a job in the UK somewhere *shudder* early mornings. So i think that covers our Canada stay for now, what i've missed you'll see in teh photos. Take care everyone miss you all xox The Girls
