Ok so i made to Harlem with Fabian and his friend, we asked around the streets where we could find a gospel mass...after some effort we found one. as expected we were the white minority, but it was awesome. 2hrs of the most inspiring church time i've ever experienced....With the music and the passion of the preacher, you couldn't help but get caught up. As visitors we were warmly welcomed and met some people afterwards, very cool!!! spent the afternoon meandering around harlem and then the afternoon in central park. it's amazing to think of this massive green haven in the middle of manhattan. it's pretty bizarre to see the skyscrapers peeking over the tops of the trees!!! so many people, i guess they don't have backyards like we do. we saw the coolest thing...there was like this skate dancing club in the middle of central park where all these dudes whizz around on inline/roller skates dancing. hundreds of people just hang out watching them, some seriously interesting people there...it was like an outdoor daylight rave on skates, very amusing.
geez it's hard to find public toilets in this place, got so desperate had to ask a guy working as a concierge on park ave (most exclusive) to use his bathroom, he snuck me into the basement!!!! today i cruised the harbour checking at such sites as the statue of liberty, then did a bus tour of brooklyn where there is some beautiful leafy streets lined with beautifully architectured homes. i can't believe i leave tomorrow, and that Jana and donna are on the plane as i write, coming to meet me. another adventure begins. i could have spent another week here and still would not have done it justice i'm sure. have seen 2 movies the last 2 nights, just to escape the heat (37 today) and also slow down, it's such a quick pace here. i've never done so much power walking and dodging people, the crowds are unbelievable. looking forward to a slower pace and slight cooler weather in south america. sorry i haven't been able to post photos, the one computer that i've been able to use won't let me save them to transfer....it sucks, will post them as soon i find a decent internet cafe!! xx
