Just a Few of the Cousins in Lake Placid

Our ten year old granddaughter, Vivian, came for a week's visit. Thought others entertaining grandchildren might like this perspective. It may look like we were constantly on the go; but we did realize that a quiet afternoon reading or being a bit indulgent with our i-pad, and a trip to Price Chopper for V. to choose her own treats were also fun additions to the equation. We started at a family party in Lake Placid, NY which was tons of fun. V. got to reacquaint with almost a score of cousins - mostly girls. What fun, especially all the dancing after dinner. We live in New York's Capital Region by happenstance of birth and employment; we stay here (Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany County areas) on purpose. Surely we remain primarily because of family and friends; but we also love the area and what it offers including its proximity to some very cool destinations a day or so away. So many "quality of life" features lend them selves to tourism; and vice versa! Theatres, parks, galleries, quaint boutiques, sweet small towns, restaurants great and small, street fests, art shows, athletic events and sports venues from rivers and lakes to race courses and sports make up the fabric of where we live and why we love it here. Why do we fly home from Florida? FAMILY and more! A housefull of company and Thanksgiving in Stillwater followed by dessert in Saratoga, Christmas Eve in Charlton Christmas day in Rutland Town, VT, quick trip for a party in Cape Cod, New Years with family visiting from Northport, LI and Rutland; and a few relatives invited for New Years Day. That's why we put the RV in storage on Pine Island, head home, and stay here from Thanksgiving until Feb. Here's an overview of a few of the highlights. Family party at the Finish Line at Northway (I87) Exit 13 N, South Broadway, Saratoga (Route 9 Malta). Love that place. We haven't "travel blogged" in some time. We get so busy with short trips and just enjoying where we live that time goes by. When we are not "on the road," we live in spot that has many features of a great vacation ... but we are less than 15 minutes to and from work in Schenectady. Ballston Lake, a four mile long natural lake, is beautiful all four seasons.
