Our Journey
The area we are currently travelling in. Good evening everyone, another update for you! We are in a little hotel in a small place called Lawrenceville after a busy and very picturesque few days along the Atlantic Coast.
After a very tedious three hours spent in a Washington Laundromat we managed to get on the road and head for Ocean City, on a small penisular South East of Washington. It was a really nice drive through the Maryland and Delaware countryside and we passed a lot of small farmers stalls selling fruit and veg and lots of small, typical American neighbourhoods (they are so patriotic with almost every house flying a stars and stripes flag or three from their porches!)
Another highlight was crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge onto Kent Island , it was over 4 miles long and its quite an experience driving over something like that and the views from it were good too. As we approached Ocean City, which is right on the Atlantic Coast, it suddenly became very hazy and then completely cloudy. Because it was only early evening we decided to head to the Assateague Island National Shore which is a natural barrier just off the coast of Ocean City.
It was very tranquil and we had a nice walk along the beach and a paddle in the Atlantic Ocean, which is as close as we will get to Britain for the next few months!! On the way back to Ocean City we did see a couple of deer, but unfortunately no wild ponies which disappointed Rachel who is considering suing the Assateague Island National Shore for false advertising as it said that there was wild ponies on the website!! http://www.assateagueisland.com/
When we got back to Ocean City we needed to find somewhere to stay for the evening, our first stop was McDonalds to take advantage of the free WiFi (you dont even need to buy anything!) to try and find a hotel or motel. Unfortunately, McDonalds WiFi was McBroken. We weren't "Lovin It"!! We had to drive round stopping at each motel and hotel that we saw (and there were loads), this place was like an American Blackpool! We decided before asking anywhere that 50 dollars was our budget for the night. The prices we were quoted ranged from 90 dollars to 200 dollars. We found out (due to the abundance of youngsters around) that it was "Seniors
Delaware markets
A little farmers market enroute to Ocean City Week" for locals who have recently graduated, therefore prices were sky high. After an hour and a half we managed to drive a bargain with the local Comfort Inn... an ocean view, king bed suite for the price of a standard room!! (This honeymoon lark is proving to be a great bargaining chip!) We had a lovely meal at the local sushi restaurant and then got to bed after a long day of driving!
Yesterday (Tuesday), we drove north up the coast and headed towards Atlantic City, where we were booked into a bargain room at the Trump Plaza on a special offer. It was another nice drive and involved an 80 minute ferry trip across the Delaware Bay and then a short trek to Atlantic City. We promptly checked into the Trump Plaza and when we got to our room on the 21st floor, it hadn't been cleaned!! We lugged our big rucksacks and other bits and pieces down to Guest Services where Rachel very politely told the lady at the desk that it was "our honeymoon, we were here for one night and that it was terrible that the room hadn't been cleaned". We declined their offer
to clean the room while we waited and were given a new key for a room on the 23rd floor. We were ecstatic to find that we had been given the keys to an Ocean View Jacuzzi Suite!! It was huge and very luxurious! Not bad for a princely sum of 70 dollars! (See the video for evidence!) A lovely meal and evening in the bars and casino followed. We even learnt to play Craps and didnt lose any money doing so!
This morning we set off after a nice walk along Atlantic City's famous boardwalk and drove through Philadelphia before reaching a more modest hotel in Lawrenceville ready for a day of looking round Princeton (famous for its university) and Morristown (which very colonial and pretty) before we head to JFK and our flight on Friday to Las Vegas!
Enough from us, its bedtime! Bye for now everyone x
