This morning Torren got the scare of his life as he left his retainer at the breakfast buffet table. Unfortunately, he realized this after the fact and had to rummage through the garbage with the bus boy. Let’s just hope he sterilized it before putting it back into his mouth. After breakfast, we finally got the chance to prove our climbing prowess. At first we thought that the Red Rock trail was a piece of cake, but then we climbed like we had never climbed before. You will have to look at the pictures to see us about half-way up until our legs felt like Jell-0. However, some of the students took to the mountain like a duck takes to the water. Still others, were not cut out for climbing and were happy to see ... read more

Oh, the Mojave. I went for a walk in the open desert. There was a fire in Red Rock recently, so I got to see the burn, see a desert tortoise, a weird unidentified bug, kaleechi (not spelled like that, I'm sure), a desert squirrel, and other things. I really like the desert. It seems really full of life to me, despite the fact that my mom and dad both think nothing without trees can be vibrantly alive. It's just a different type of vibrant here. It's too bad there was a fire recently. I think was started by lightning. After all, it's been dry and stormy at the same time. It just really gets you thinking when you see all of that land burned! Also, I spent the day with Michelle, Corrine, and Allie. Wow. ... read more

So, it's my final day in the states, and I finally found something new in Las Vegas! It's a little town/tourist spot called Bonnie Springs that recreates an old west town. Helen and I went as a good-bye sort of trip, and I got to feed swans!! That being the case, I'm not sure it was terribly authentic, but being able to feed turtles and a baby swan makes up for any lack of authenticity. Finally, I made my first ever print. It's kind of a cartoon. I think it's decent. Ok, I need to finish packing. For real this time.... read more

The mammouth drive to Vegas Most people fly to Vegas because just like it says on the tin, Vegas, is right in the middle of the Nevada desert!! And that it was!! the drive there was amazing! We drove inland from Monterey bay, though the Impressive Sierra Nevada mountain range. We're talking mile upon mile of long straight roads passing through little redneck towns with old classic diners, motels, etc.. Then graduall inclines up into the dry and dusty mountains with huge birds of prey everywhere!! Only an hour into the drive and the landscape/temperature/people/food/accomodation are completely different!! We were heading over the mountains towards 'Death Valley', we could not wait.... Death Valley Death Valley National Park is fairly small in comparison to the Arizona deserts, but nevertheless is still hundreds of miles in length. Lots ... read more

There was a 13-mile scenic drive through the park. There was a $5.00 fee, but well worth it. We stopped at the Visitor’s Center to talk with people and Kelly bought a very nice sunh... read more
