Emily, Claire and myself
prior to friday night's excursion into vegas So let's see. An update. Last weekend I didn't do much. Mostly just hung around the house or the pool. We did go into vegas on friday night and went to a place called the Freakin Frog. I really liked it. There was live music so we just sat and had a drink and listened to music that was pretty good. So it was fun. And more my speed. 😊 Then on monday began my week of crazy tracking. I was prepared for the worst but as it turned out, I didn't mind it. Maybe because we kinda lucked out on the schedule. Normally the majority of the shifts are 10 hour shifts. But because of the crazy heat, Sarah, the grad student who's research it is, decided that we didnt need to go out in the heat of the day, because the tortoises wouldnt be leaving their burrows. So the schedule went something like this (keeping in mind that 2 hours of each shift was driving because it takes almost an hour to get out to Coyote springs which is where we were tracking):
Monday: 4am-2pm
Tuesday (I suppose): midnight-noon
Tuesday night/wednesday morning: 8pm-6am
Then we get time to recover which was really nice. I got back around 7am on wednesday because after tracking we went out to breakfast which was nice. So yeah. Then I went to sleep around 8:30 and ended up sleeping until nearly 2pm! crazy. Claire and I then decided to go see Harry Potter and so we bought tickets online. I ate lunch and showered and she picked me up around 3:40. We went to a 4pm showing. I was very happy to be getting to see it on opening day! Still conflicted as to how I feel about it. The more I think about it, what they did put in the movie they did quite well. I of course was getting caught up in the fact that they cut so very much AND added a ton of crap that wasn't in the book which makes me angry. But if I look past that I think it was a good movie. 😊 Right after we went to see Star Trek, which I also really liked. Were done around 9pm. I came back to the apartment and just kinda hung out for a bit and then went to sleep around 11pm. I slept until about 8:30am which is kinda crazy. It was nice to be sleeping during normal sleeping hours. hehe. I proceeded to laze around for most of the day. We did not head back into the field until 4pm and we were out tracking from 5pm until 1am, got back around 2am. I then slept until noon which is simply crazy. Friday afternoon I hung around, showered and ate. Claire picked me up to do our last tracking around 3:30 and we were back by 10pm! So the last one wasn't bad at all. In fact the whole thing really wasnt so bad. But I may feel that way because we mostly avoided the heat of the day. And, during the night I never encountered anything scary (like spiders) which is what I was most concerned about. So yeah, overall I did not think it was bad. So yay! :-)
I had every intention of going to sleep shortly after we got back last night but then some people decided to go out and Emily convinced me to go with. Mostly cause it is her last weekend here and I did want to go out in Vegas with her at least once. So it was she and I, Claire and Claire's friend from Jersey (yay 3 people from central Jersey!), Martin (another co-worker) and his friend Michelle (who was an intern with Claire last year). We went to a club called Eye Candy, which is in Mandalay Bay, a hotel/casino place. It was actually pretty fun. We got back around 4:30 and I fell into bed and slept until about 11:30. Still felt pretty tired but I didn't want to go back to sleep because I feel weird when I start sleeping that late into the day. haha. So yeah! That was my week and the start of my weekend. Don't know what I'll be doing tonight/tomorrow but whatever happens I'll write about it later. :-)
