I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.------Bill Cosby August 25, 2005, Thursday. We are following a piece of the Lewis and Clark trail. At a visitor center, the Ranger demonstrated the firearms used by the Lewis Clark Expedition. We stopped at Big Hole and a Ranger narrated the events that took place here. Obviously a brutal battle occurred on August 9, 1877, when the US soldiers attempted to capture the Nez Perce Native Americans and return them to the reservation. The massacre occurred very early in the morning, many elderly, women and children were killed. ... read more

"Lord, how the day passes! It's like a life--so quickly when we don't watch it and so slowly if we do."---John Steinbeck August 22, 2005, Monday. Left Glacier early and headed to Missoula, Montana. Needed to do some shopping and make an appointment for the Bothan to get the oil changed, etc. August 23, 2005, Tuesday. Stopped at Freightliner and got our Bothan taken care of . We biked around Missoula, a neat college town with great trails. This is the only town in Montana that voted for Kerry. So we felt at home. August 24, 2005, Wednesday. We biked and biked all around Missoula. Stopped at the bike shop and lots of little shops along the way. We treated ourselves to a grand prime rib dinner. ... read more

: "Experience is not what happens to you, it is what you do with what happens to you." --Aldous Huxley August 19, 2005, Friday. We were back in the lower “48” before 9am. It has been two months since we boarded the ferry for Alaska—80 days on the road!! It has been an incredible adventure, but I’m looking forward to going home. We drove the “Going to the Sun Road” it was breathtaking. Our vehicle just made the allotted 21’ or less rule. We stopped at Logan Pass and saw a group of mountain goats. There was some construction on this narrow mountain road, but the views were magnificent and the day crystal clear. I was glad Bob was driving. August 20, 2005, Saturday. Fish Creek campground has no hook-up (electricity) and no showers. We hiked ... read more

Alright...so this is the real beginning of my "Travel Blog". I'm not sure how well I'll be able to keep it up, but I'll do my best depending on access. Lots of big things happening in my life these days. I am turning "two dozen" as a friend says tomorrow afternoon! Birthdays are fun. And in about 7 weeks I will be packing up my bags and moving to Madagascar...at least for two years! I am joining the Peace Corps (as earlier mentioned) and going to be working as Community Health Educator in Madagascar. My first 3 months will be spent in Antananarivo, the capital, doing some training and "cultural adjustment". As well as spending about 5 hours a day learning language. It's interesting...this process of joining the Peace Corps. You are a volunteer. You "join". ... read more

What a great week it has been. We left Denver and headed to Teton National Park where we spent a day putzing around, picking up some forgotten items and looking for a place for Bret to photograph sunset. Instead of staying in the Tetons we headed to Yellowstone. We camped just outside the park at a great campground that was FREE. We hope to remember it in the future. It was set aside a braided river which was beautiful and wonderful mountains in the backdrop. The next morning we left the campground and headed through the park to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center. We hung out there for an hour photographing grizzly bears. Nice facility but not enough room for the bears to roam, I don't think. We then went back into the park, drove ... read more

We had a somewhat lazy morning and left around 11 am. We drove up to Missoula and did our laundry. Mom looked Sherry up in Arlee, up Hwy 93 and called her to leave a message. We drove up and called again from a gas station. We ended up being only 2 miles from her house. She lives way back in the woods with 40 acres and a creek running through the property. Her house was very cool. Cery rustic and right up my alley. We stayed for a few hours with her and she told the girls the story of how Gma Margaret met Judd, Sherry's dad. She said that Gma was about to have a baby (Gma Dawn) and came into Judd's doctor's office (the old Siren hospital in Wisconsin). She walked through a ... read more

I am awake and up at 6:30am. The sun is rising and lighting up the cottonwoods. There's not a cloud in the sky. Dot looks cute looking at the breeze blowing the leaves around in the trees. Everyone else is sleeping in today. We didn't leave until 1 pm and drove down from Forsyth to Shoshone National Forest and camped at the Big Game Campsite wst of Cody, Wyoming. We ate at Burger King, Dot also got 2 burgers and our leftovers, so she was in doggie heaven.... read more

We had to make a stop in Valley City for new differential oil and sealant as its leaking. We made it from Tower City to Miles City Montana and have camped on the Rosebud River for $12.00. There are lots of trains passing by here which makes for difficult sleeping. Kayleigh had a dream about lots of rattlesnakes, and woke up scared in the middle of the night. Mom has found more petrified wood here. She has a really good rock hound eye. We ate German venison sausage, beans and bacon/garlic baked potatoes last night. Good stuff. The mosquitoes were a bit irritating and we needed to don bug dope. There was a rabbit here when we stopped to make camp and we took pictures of him/her. There was also a portion of a dead duck ... read more
