When I spend a day somewhere like Yellowstone, I have to wonder how ANYONE can question that there is a god. That place is amazing! I never imagined what it would be like. There aren't enough pictures in the world to make anyone really grasp the beauty that it Yellowstone, but I sure tried!! We left Idaho Falls yesterday morning, as early as we could, but not insanely early, and headed to Yellowstone. We stopped in the town of West Yellowstone and rented the neatest thing! It was a GPS tour guide! For a one day trip in the park, it was PRICELESS! We never would have learned what we did, or even known what we were looking at without it. It was like having a tour guide in the car with us! His voice was ... read more

We managed to get around and see a lot of Yellowstone by car today. After a rough nights sleep (it gets very cold here even in height of summer) we got up early and managed to see Old Faithful which was a great experience. I would strongly recommend to people that going early you will obviously get a better photo but also beat the crowd which can hit to a big amount in the peak season. After going for a big trek up an overlook we bumped into a Canadian guy who said he had spotted three black bears and there bigger cousin a Brown in the past two days on his trek. We set out in hope and apprehension to a certain degree that we will get to spot a bear. Unfortunately there was no ... read more

After a few days on the road and trips through towns in the Rockies such as Aspen we are now set up for a couple of days at Yellowstone national park. The journey was one of the most amazing I have ever experienced, the Rockies is a must see for anyone who truly admires nature. You could easily spend a whole month in the mountains and only scratch the surface. The stop off point for us was a day in Salt Lake City which was a interesting experience. I would certainly not classify the city a a great point of interest (would actually call it dull) but the national park to the west called Antelope Island is truly a spectacle for anyone to see. The drive up through Utah was amazing and a great experience where ... read more

1st June, 2009 West Yellowstone, Montana. Not to busy today, bit of shopping etc. Spent a bit of time at the Grizzly and Wolf Center, a great place, watched two of the movies, one on the Grizzly Bear. The Grizzly is a funny creature, most people think he is a meat eater when in fact the opposite is true, don't get me wrong they do eat meat but it only makes up about 20% of their diet, they eat animals caught up in the winter freeze (deceased) and the newly born calves / fawns, and are quite happy to fight the wolves off after they kill. They also eat foliage / grass, but they have two special diets before they head into their winter sleep, the first is up in the high country, a moth lands ... read more

31st May, 2009 Travel to West Yellowstone, Montana. On the move again today, said goodbye to Jackson (which we can recommend to any traveller), and headed up SH 26, through Alpine, across the border into Idaho and up through Rexburg, Ashton, across another border and into the State of Montana, arriving here at West Yellowstone around 2pm. As it implies West Yellowstone is a small town on the Western edge of the Yellowstone Park, nice place. We are at the Grizzly RV park, which is just 4 blocks from the Yellowstone entrance, it has 191 sites, all with full hook ups, well set out. Only one problem and I would say it either belongs to the town or the area - they have mosquitoes, so it was out with the insect spray (that fixed them). Went ... read more

It was the turn of Old Faithful geyser at the Upper Geyser Basin to entertain and amaze us today. But it was her sister geysers that had us captivated. We arrived at the Wall Mart sized parking lot just 30 minutes before Old Faithful was scheduled to erupt and found a front row seat among 300 eager geyser gazers. Old Faithful was a little late but nobody cared as the weather was clear blue sky and 20 deg C. Unfortunately the breeze was blowing steam towards us so the water spray was hidden. However we saw its next eruption from the other side and enjoyed it again. Then we toured the remaining pools, springs and geysers at the Upper Basin. There was enough to see for a full afternoon and we had to postpone two other ... read more

I can’t begin to describe what it is like driving from Mammoth to Norris and seeing steam rising from a pool of water at the side of the road. When we stopped, we could see, hear & smell the boiling cauldron. Thus it was for all of today. Tonight everything we wore, plus our skin, smells like sulpher and other ugly-smelling noxious gases, the names of which escape me, primarily because the beauty of what we saw far outranked any temporary unpleasantness. However, be forewarned. Anyone with a sensitive nose should avoid the geysers, steam vents, fumaroles and mud pots of Yellowstone. Make no mistake. Underneath all of this crunchy crust is some very active magma. We didn’t need the signs warning us to stay off the landscape, but we wondered how all the wild animals ... read more

Super 8 came out on top again with two queen beds we both had a grand sleep and although late to bed awoke refreshed ready for their Super Start breakfast.I am getting sold on waffles and syrup and might have to buy a machine when we get home...but then I might get to be as big as ........Gretchen won't touch them as she reckons it will ruin all her fitness work !!! Weather was overcast and about 50F or 10C and like being back home in the morning. So we both dressed for the weather and set off with West Yellowstone in our sights for the end of the days travel. The first hour of travel all seemed to be downhill as the car functioned at 2000 revs at 70mph when at other times the revs would ... read more
