Hey all you wonderful patrons... I just wanted to ask you all a couple favors... Some of you have been added by me or Stef because we felt you needed some assistance in the initiative department...so...sorry, I guess. Or not. We just wanted to ask that if you are reading the blog on the regular, we would greatly appreciate it if you subscribed, just so we know that you're out there keeping tabs. Also, please feel free to pass this on to anyone else who might enjoy it, hate it, marvel at it or be repulsed by it. There's no such thing as bad publicity. Again, thanks for being part of this-- whether you realize it or not you are each with us in some way as we wander the countryside, prattling away... SR/SS... read more

After yesterdays' marathon hiking day we decided to take it easy today. The girls slept till 10:00 am, and enjoyed a morning of just hanging out. We did go whitewater rafting on the Garder River for an 8 mile ride. It was alot of fun, it was rated at a class 2-3 rapids, just right for their first time. They think they want to goto the Upper Gulley next year, we shall see. We forgot to add to our blog from yesterday the big storm that came into Gardner. It was very cool to watch the storm come over the mountains and pretty much right towards us. The big surprise was the dime size hail (see pic) bouncing of the camper and Emma's head (Rachel was a bit smarter and stayed in the camper). We also ... read more

Entering the Yellowstone Park, it was as if someone said "que the eagle" and with that an American Bald Eagle came flying down the Gardiner River, very cool! Blog from Emma: Yesterday we went to Mammoth Hot Springs. It was neat you could see steam coming from the springs and small waterfalls. The smell was horriable. :-( It smelled like boiled egg salad sandwiches that my mom makes). The water temputare was over 212 degrees farenhight! Right after that we went to Tower Falls. There we had lunch and then went on a hike to see Tower falls. We got to see it from the top but the bottom was blocked off. But there was a path to the yellow stone river that had fallen down trees on it. We climbd over them and went to ... read more

What's hot: The Eye Symphony—beauty unbroken as the Floonian Roadster rolls on Also hot: Paul’s driving 90 m.p.h. on unpopulated mountain prairie roads. What's not: Paul’s first speeding ticket, courtesy of the Wyoming State Police The road: Clear, hot, dry, little traffic, and now passing by us at a tame 75 m.p.h. Miles so far: About 2600. Travel lesson of the day:One person's spiritual experience can be another's Scrabble opportunity. from Kathy: We’ve all heard of “eye candy,” but this scenery is more than simple sugar. Think "eye symphony." Just when you’re sure the colors can’t be more vivid, the rocks can’t be more unusual, the boulders can’t hang at those angles without falling, the water can’t be more blue or more rapid, the curve in the road can’t keep ... read more

6/5/08: Our journey included a visit to West Yellowstone, and fortunately a visit to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in the town of West Yellowstone. The scenery I include here is also from the long drive it took to get here, including scenes from the Badlands in North Dakota, and the splendid Alpine views of Wyoming. I had mixed feelings about the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center: it was great to see the habitats and the bears and wolfs seemingly enjoying themselves. These animals, for the most part, had become too interested in humans and our food/garbage, or were discovered to be a potential danger to lifestock: so now are kept safe in the sanctuary. These animals will not be released into the wild, however they looked pretty relaxed and accepting of their enclosures. It ... read more

Well, it's been a week now and I can't believe how incredible this trip has been so far. We have already seen and done so much stuff that I can't even fathom what's to come. I got up early this morning and the first thing I did after I got ready was step out the door and into Wal-Mart to shop for some warm clothes. Tim didn't pack a single long sleeve shirt and you know good and well he didn't have a jacket with him. I already had to buy a hideous orange hoodie at the KOA in Mt. Rushmore because it was so cold there and I didn't have anything warm to wear. Wal-Mart didn't have a single long sleeve shirt, no jackets and not even a sweatshirt for sale. The sales lady ... read more

Next we made our way into Montana, Big Sky Country. It really was quite exciting driving through the rolling hills with nary a city or even a town for miles and miles. We left the interstate a little east of Butte heading for Yellowsone National park, which occupies the South East corner of Wyoming. It was on top of our list of places to visit and what a thrill it was! So much to see, so little time. Of course, Old Faithful was a must, and we spent quite some time waiting for him to do his thing. Finally, he blew and we captured a few great pics. We could only stay the one day, so we drove through from west to east, stopping when anything drew our attention. One such event was a herd of ... read more

Elliot's Corner: Well the title pretty much explains itself. We're still having fun. Today we went on a white water rafting trip. First time for all of us. It was soooo fun. We got soaked. Our guide's name was Carl. When we went through Yellowstone today and yesterday and saw: a ton of elk, a couple bison, a couple mule deer, a bald eagle and nest, an osprey and nest, and a coyote. We also went to a local rescue zoo with bears and wolves and did this program where we got to hide food for the bears. The bears were not in the cages then. Well I cant think of anything else to say soooo... I LIKE PPIIEE PPIEE PPIIEE PPIIEE PIE.... see ya -__- -_____- -_- ... read more

Long drive today - not sure but I think the longest of the trip at 572 miles, I was right with yesterdays comments about not much to see, but what was weird is the American version of UK motorway service stations or as they call them Rest Stops, all they are is toilets and a drinks machine - if you want feeding you have to stop at a town and there are signs on the Interstates which quite literally say - Food Next Exit and then tell you what food there is, be it Subway, McDonalds, Burger King etc. Anyway as I got near West Yellowstone I could see what looked like a huge cloud coming down from the sky, unfortunately it was a cloud going the other direction and is an example of what can ... read more

I know I havent written in a very long time. I will do some back filling when there isnt a million people waiting for one internet connection. Well I am currently in West Yellowstone, Montana. Yellowstone Park sits in 3 states and we are staying about 5 minutes out of the park. Let me tell you it is definatly cowboy country. Over the last couple of days we have been sightseeing in the park and going to an animal sancutary called the Grizzly discovery centre that houses 4 wolves and 8 bears. Photos to come soon, as well as a good chunk of gysers and other wild life. I spotted cyote cubs as well as elk, dear, moose, pekas, chipmunks and some rather stubborn buffalo who dont understand the road rules. It is truely a beautiful ... read more
