blog 08-08-15 Butte to Clinton, MT
It was moving day but I didn't have to be out of the campground until noon and my next destination was only 2or3 hours away so I decided to go on the tour of the Clark Mansion in Butte. Mr. Clark was the richest mine owner in Butte at the time and he wanted to build the biggest and best house he could. The house was finished in 1888, the same year Dave and Lisa's house was built so I wanted to see what was different and what was similar.
I was out of the camper by 8:40, stopped and got a few groceries and got to the tour about 9:10, I was the first one for the day. I was thoroughly impressed with the house and especially the workmanship in the original construction and the preservation efforts. The house changed hands several times but eventually ended up in the hands of a woman who loved Butte and loved the house. She must have had the money too because she preserved a beauty. I'll let he pictures tell the story.
I left Butte at 11:40 and headed west on 90 the north
on 1. I could have gone the whole way on 90 but 1 was the scenic way and not that much longer so I couldn't resist. Did have to get back on 90 again but just for about 20 miles.
When I got off the interstate I could only turn left, right was a dead end. The road was a very narrow 2 lane bumpy, country road and I wondered where I was going. But not far down the road was my new campground, checked in and took Oscar for a walk. We went down to the creek and looked around for an access to the creek for fishing in the morning. Oscar had a great time because we were in a field and he ran around like crazy. He was still tethered but I gave him lots of slack and he was happy. The scene at the creek was beautiful and I tried to read the water to see where the fish might be.
We returned just in time for Oscar's dinner. I got washed up for my dinner, changed clothes and walked down to the Stage Station Restaurant. They have a really nice menu and 3
specials every night. The place is really welcoming and cozy. Pictures
I decided to have the prime rib with salad bar and fresh snap peas. Everything was delicious. I talked to a woman at the next table and she told me the mountain sheep were in her neighbors yard but would return to the mountain before dark. Glad I came to dinner early.
I went back home and grabbed Oscar and down the road we went. Well it was the same road that I got there on and further on down the road it got more narrow and had a sheer drop on my side. The scenery was beautiful, the creek gorgeous but no stinking sheep. I figured they must have gone back up the mountain but I continued on down the road anyway.
Then I found them. They were laying down along someones driveway just resting in the sun. One jumped a fence and did it with great ease, unlike the elk. I did find another little family in another yard but they were eating away, no resting for them.
I saw a white-tail deer, some turkeys and a strange looking cow.
Back at
the campground we walked around and talked to a few people then settled in the camper for the night. I do have to go out and look at the stars and look for the northern lights. The sky here is really dark so I'm hoping to have some good star gazing tonight.

Amazing varied day
The colors are fabulous, the incredibly blue sky, green grass, brown wood, stained glass, yellow flowers. I think you have some award winners. But I am so enjoying your descriptions as well. Thank you!
