all of my worldly possesions were packed up this weekend and sent trucking with my father. i had way more stuff than i intended--and i even thought i didn't have that much stuff! sad. but that's our culture. ke garne? i have these small moments of clarity. it's like a cloudy day, but the sunshine breaks through occassionally for just a little bit. something i say will strike me and i'll realize my future, but then it is quickly gone and all seems normal again. i keep waiting for it to really sink in. my room feels utterly empty and i suddenly feel very lonesome for some reason. maybe that's why we have so much stuff--to forget that we have isolated ourselves as a race. i really feel like there's still a decent amount of stuff ... read more

So we're two weeks out from departure date. I think it actually sank in this weekend. I'm really doing this! Hard to believe! I still have a load of stuff to pack up, which really sucks because who wants to spend time packing when you should be out with friends enjoying life? But for the most part I'm feeling really ready to go. I wish the weather was nicer in Bozeman, but maybe that's just an encouragement to pack! Ha! I can't even begin to describe the emotions I'm going through right now! Where does one start? I'm leaving the country. Not just for a little stint, but for something that feels much more permanent...you know? Strange. But this is the path I chose, and I think it's a good one. I'll have an amazing time, ... read more

I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.------Bill Cosby August 25, 2005, Thursday. We are following a piece of the Lewis and Clark trail. At a visitor center, the Ranger demonstrated the firearms used by the Lewis Clark Expedition. We stopped at Big Hole and a Ranger narrated the events that took place here. Obviously a brutal battle occurred on August 9, 1877, when the US soldiers attempted to capture the Nez Perce Native Americans and return them to the reservation. The massacre occurred very early in the morning, many elderly, women and children were killed. ... read more

Alright...so this is the real beginning of my "Travel Blog". I'm not sure how well I'll be able to keep it up, but I'll do my best depending on access. Lots of big things happening in my life these days. I am turning "two dozen" as a friend says tomorrow afternoon! Birthdays are fun. And in about 7 weeks I will be packing up my bags and moving to Madagascar...at least for two years! I am joining the Peace Corps (as earlier mentioned) and going to be working as Community Health Educator in Madagascar. My first 3 months will be spent in Antananarivo, the capital, doing some training and "cultural adjustment". As well as spending about 5 hours a day learning language. It's interesting...this process of joining the Peace Corps. You are a volunteer. You "join". ... read more

The need for change bulldozed a road down the center of my mind. ~Maya Angelou This is just the beginning...I am in Bozeman, Montana, my home for the last 5 years, where I have gone to university, grown up, loved and lost, and made leaps across the globe. My first leap was Kathmandu, Nepal and what a leap it was! My second was to England, mainly London but I had a brief stint in Paris, France! And now I am back in that familiar airport terminal of life, waiting for my plane to be called. I am joining the Peace Corps. I have been nominated for a position in West Africa doing health extention work, and I can hardly keep my toes still thinking of it. But I must bide my time and save my money ... read more

Hey everyone, I know it's been a while, so I'll try to get somewhat up to date on what I've been up to the last week or two. I am in Bozeman now, and have been here a little over a week. It's a fun little place, I guess a big city by Montana standards, but still small compared to what I'm used to in CA. My only complaint so far is no late night food except the Pita Pit which I don't plan to visit again. So, last I wrote I was leaving Jackson for Idaho I believe. I drove over the hill to Driggs the night before the little backcountry adventure just to avoid having to get up too early, I'm still lazy at heart. Driggs is a great place if you like to ... read more

Wow, only 53 days in counting till I am in Europe.  I am soo excited but so nervous.  I am wondering if there are big things that I am forgetting to do.  Hopefully, everything will come together at the end.  I have never done anything like this so it is a first of adventures for me.  We (the group I am going with) booked our hostels in London, Paris, and Amsterdam.  In London we are staying at St. Christopher's Village.  I guess it has a spa and a sauna on the rooftop that overlooks the entire city.  It is near Soho, which I have heard has amazing shopping.  In Paris, we are staying at the Friend's Hostel which is only about a mile away from the Latin Quarter, which supposively is the big nightlife and shopping scene.  Then in Amsterdam, we ... read more
