Seen at the Minnesota State Fair After 6 months and over 3,000 miles, we thought we’d finally update you on our travels. Even though the date above is September, we're writing this in March--shame on us.
Leaving South Dakota in late August, we headed for Minneapolis/St. Paul. A casino RV park was home for a week, and we were pleasantly surprised to find an enclosed RV wash bay at our disposal. It’s extremely rare, actually.
We enjoyed the Minnesota State Fair, sampled a few restaurants and farmers markets, visited the Mall of America (not as big as I thought), and left town right before the Republican Convention.
Next stop was Iron Mountain, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, quite rustic and wooded. We met friends Ken and Ellie and caravanned across the UP and the Mackinac Bridge to Petoskey and Traverse City. We had no idea the eastern shore of Lake Michigan was so beautiful! There was much to do, see, eat, and explore.
We spent one day on Mackinac Island, accessible only by ferry. Gorgeous summer homes, the historic Grand Hotel, and numerous fudge and tourist shops beckoned. We did a lot of walking, as there are no cars allowed on the
Barbeque on Steroids
BBQ built the size of tanker truck island—lots of horses and bicycles, however.
When Ken and Ellie headed south to visit family, we stayed in Traverse City to explore the Leelanau peninsula. Although cherry harvest was long over, we stocked up on dried and frozen cherries. We visited historic harbor towns and the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Park. The area would be a great place to spend a summer.
