Maid Rite Cafe Bemidji, MNMaid Rite Cafe Bemidji, MNMaid Rite Cafe Bemidji, MN

Hey Chandlers, doesn't this look like a DDD place?
Greetings from wet and humid Minnesota. We arrived here in Walker, MN on Sunday after traveling through Fargo ND and the backroads of MN. The scenery was beautiful as it is very green and wooded. It is a 2 lane road that we are traveling so the pace is slow but hey, who's in a hurry right? On Monday we drove around the town of Walker which is located on Leech Lake, the 7th largest lake in MN, and is mostly a resort town that has many golf courses and great fishing. We decided to drive to Bemidji, which is about 25 miles southwest of here to see what that town had to offer. It is a moderately sized town and it is located on a lake also. I now see why MN is the land of 10,000 lakes, there is water everywhere! Most of you know that Don & I are diehard Diner's, Drive-in's & Dives (DDD's) fans and so of course we see this joint that looks like a place that Guy (the host) would visit so we have to stop. It was called Maid Rite. I have included a picture of it as well as the story of

Hope you can read this story. It was really a cool little diner. I should email Guy Fieri to visit.
the Maid Rite sandwich. It was a very unique sandwich that was started here in 1926 by a butcher. The meat reminded me of the same shredded meat we used in our homemade beerocks as a kid with mustard, onions, and dill pickle on a hamburger bun. Doesn't sound very appetizing but it really was good. We got to meet the owner and chatted with him for awhile. Turns out that he knows the Cabela family, you know the ones who own the Cabela sporting goods stores, and he hunts with them. Needless to say Don chatted with him for quite a while. I told Don he needed to stay connected with this guy and get an "in" with the Cabela family. Heck they probably already know him we get at least 2 catalogs a week for gosh sakes! It was a very interesting place and they were very nice people and fun to visit with.

Today we were supposed to leave for Duluth but a storm came in so we decided to stay put. It rained most of the night and ALL day. Thunder and lighting too. What's up with all this rain? I took a picture of

This is right in the middle of the down pour. It finally stopped raining about 6pm. Whoohoo!
it really coming down so you could see I wasn't kidding. We are leaving for Duluth tomorrow and will be going to a DDD's place. Eat your heart out Chandlers!
