Spent our fourth night in Alexandria, Minnesota just west of the Twin Cities. Interesting fact is we all know St. Paul and Minneapolis as the twin cities but actually, there are many in this region. For example, the twin city to Green Bay is DePere and the twin city to Fargo is Mandan. They are all separated by large rivers. We managed to miss the tornados which hit Minnesota on Thursday, not my favorite part of the trip so far. Unfortunately, it is really hard to do any sightseeing while dodging the lightening and Bill trying to keep the car going straight with the high winds! Friday, the 9th was a much better day. Arrived in Fargo early in the morning, yah. Do you know that Fargo is still capitalizing on the movie. Everywhere you go ... read more

Sick of being in the car, I convinced Peter that we should go into Alexandria MN and take a look at this ancient runestone they have there (another find on http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2607) Previously, the only experience I had with runestones was the brief lesson found in the introduction to The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien. Find peace without driving to the Minnesota-Canada border. I’ve always gone up to Voyageur National Park to center myself. I’ve found that a dose of wilderness brings calm back to my soul. But with a five-month-old baby, I wasn’t up to boating into a remote campsite. I discovered that at some state parks, you can “cart in.” These campsites are slightly off the beaten track. I was a bit hesitant knowing how much stuff I bring camping now because of the baby. I wasn’t sure we wouldn’t be trekking back and forth between the truck and campsite. But it worked great and we’d do it again. I loved not hearing the constant hum of vehicles circling round us like we had at Forestville State Park earlier this summer. Glendalough was tranquil. Relaxing. Minnesota’s newest state park ... read more

Firstly, I know I promised photos for this blog but they're not here. This computer is a POS (sorry, Mom, but this isn't anything new to you) and the program that is supposed to download the photos from the camera onto the computer is not working and I can't figure it out so unfortunately the photos are going to have to wait for tomorrow. We're going to buy some stuff tomorrow that will allow me to easily download the photos onto the computer and get them on here for everyone to see. That being said, today was another long, but good day. We left around 7 this morning, drove about 675 miles from Goshen, Indiana to Alexandria, Minnesota and arrived here around 7:15 this evening. It was another long, flat, empty drive with the exception of ... read more

Hello All! I figured it was time for an update. There is less than 15 days left before I fly out and I was thinking that I might recap the summer. I have about 2 weeks left of my summer internship at the Runestone Museum in Alexandria. It's been a great 3 months there. I've had a great time learning and experiencing all facets of the small museum. I even installed three exhibits! Other than the internship I've been working at the Geneva Beach Resort and the Viking motel. I've also been working at the Minnesouri Club, it's a lake club for a group of families and i've been taking care of their kids as a type of day counselor and babysitter. I basically spent the day acting like a 5 year old and playing on ... read more
