On the way to Brimley, we left the RV in a Meijer parking lot and drove the Jeep up to the Locks. There is an observation deck right at the Locks. We watched a Viking Cruise ship, the Bergen, slowly pass through with about a two foot margin on either side. A Canadian freighter, the Maumee, about two football fields in length also passed through. We enjoyed a great (albeit expensive) lunch at the Wicked Sister Café.... read more

It was cool last night and we slept well and awoke refreshed. We hit the road this morning at 8:15 and 63 degrees and pointed the car north then west to skirt the northern shore of the Georgian Bay. It was as difficult to leave Pat and Robin’s place as it was to leave our friends Bob and Gloria in Poland Springs, just a few days ago. Both of these homes on the lake are little pieces of heaven in an otherwise chaotic world, and we thoroughly enjoyed our respites before venturing off on another adventure. After about an hour of driving through winding country roads carved out of thickly treed forests with little apparent civilization, we made it to Trans Canadian Highway 69. Geo: 46.5123, -84.3528This entry is a consolidation of 4 days, 7/27/16 – 7/30/16.We left Ottawa at 8:20 and 73 degrees on the 27th and headed for Huntsville, Ontario to visit our good friends Pat and Robin and spend a few days at their lakeside home. It took us about 4 hours to get there. The drive was mostly through the countryside…farms of golden wheat and corn fields in flower as evidenced by a yellow haze hovering over the dark green stalks. In a town called Renfrew we saw an unusual sight. Waiting to enter the highway was a black carriage being pulled by a beautiful dark brown horse. Inside the carriage were two women dressed in long black dresses with black bonnets on their heads. And we decided they had to be Amish. And it was ... read more
