With two new babies and an 80th Birthday, we thought it a good idea to head to Michigan. Early Thursday morning Brad and Melissa, Riley and Naomi began their trip, driving through Canada from Rochester, NY, Sara Jo and Breanna boarded a plane in Halifax and Jason, Sara and Maggie left La Paz, Bolivia. They all arrived safely at different times during the day. We left the GARBC conference and arrived around noon on Friday. By Friday afternoon we were all rested and ready to spend some time together. Saturday was the Joslin Get-together for Lynette's mom's 80th birthday celebration. Today Rich will preach at Jamestown Baptist Church and then we will congregate with the Van Heukelum family in the afternoon. On Monday we plan to go to Big Star Lake and relive some vacation memories. ... read more

Ok, so this is my travel blog. I will do my best to update as often as I can, but I make no guarantees. Here's how I've decided to format my blog: Every entry will have two sections. The first will describe where I've been, what I've seen, what I've learned, etc., etc. The second section will be what I call the beard report. For those of you who don't know, I'm going to try and grow a beard over the summer while I'm away and I want to keep everyone updated. Here's an abbreviated version on what an entry will look like. Preparations Today I went to Best Buy to pick up supplies before I leave. I also packed. It was fun. Beard Report This morning I shaved for what should be the last time ... read more

After more than a year of studying, fundraising and preparing for the trip, we were finally leaving for our long-awaited trip to the rain forest -- a ten-day trip to Peru. Day 1 … Thursday 6/5/08 We met up at the school and boarded the school bus by 6:40 a.m. Eighteen 7th and 8th graders, two teachers three parents and two grandparents. And luggage, lots of luggage. A duffel, back pack and fanny pack for each of us. The packing list was very detailed so we should be in good shape. Julia is so excited. She keeps saying “I can’t believe this is really happening, it still doesn’t seem real.” Check-in and security went smoothly except for the fact that Julia and I were both issued boarding passes for “Julia Vernier.” I had to make a ... read more

Back in Amish country, today we visited many Amish towns in Elkhart County Indiana, we took a self guided tour by CD..... great idea... we could stop and start whenever we pleased. We drove through very heavy rain for part of the day. Had a great time at the Elkhart market, all homemade foods, we bought plenty. At Bonneyville we visited the old mill, which is still in use, we purchased some red wheat flour and some corn flour. In Middlebury we saw so many horse and buggies, they were everywhere.... lots of photo taking.... and we took advantage of shopping in the Amish stores. We finished our tour in Shipshewana, where we went to Yoders.... the store they kept open for me, after hours, last time we visited. Running behind time all day.... we had soooo ... read more

In four and a half weeks I will be traveling. My destination? The farthest away from home I have ever been. On Sunday, May 11 I will fly out of Chicago and go first to London, then transfer flights and head into Germany, first going to Stuttgart and then taking a shuttle into Tübingen. The travel plans are made, the paperwork has (almost) all been finished, I finally got a hold of my nerves and contacted my host family in Tübingen last night. They are very nice people and I am excited to meet them. I am both excited and nervous for this new experience. I intend to keep a log of my weeks abroad here and hopefully be able to upload pictures while I am gone. Grüße Bethany... read more

Hola todos, I’m sorry I haven’t been able to send an email yet, it’s been really crazy with touring different places and finally getting settled in Malaga. I am hoping to find a place where I can journal/blog online and post pictures for everyone to see. Once I find a good website, I will definitely let everyone know! Life in Spain has been good! Things are very different, but the more I adjust to new things to more fun they are (like the fact that the nightlife really does not start until almost midnight and goes till 3,4,5 even after dawn, in the morning). We spent almost a week in Madrid and Toledo, and finally came to Malaga last Thursday. Madrid and Toledo were both very cool. Madrid has so many people and there is so ... read more

Hey everyone! This is the website that I am going to use for when I am in Spain so that you all can see what I have been doing. I am going to try to update it at least once a week, but hopefully more than that. Let me know if you can not see the pictures or if there is any other problem so that I can make sure I fix it before I leave! I have also uploaded a few random pictures to make sure that those work too. Hope everyone is doing well! Love you, Meghan... read more

Sooo of course things in life don't always go as planned. I freaking get it. But my family, safe to say more than some others of my acquaintance, seem inherently incapable of following a plan. It was full steam ahead for S. Korea no matter what. However, certain people nearest and dearest to me refused to support my decision. That's when I get the phone call... Nana has decided that she'd like to foot the bill for a round trip S. Korea ticket for my Mom. Seems that since the family finally realizes I'm serious about making this life decision (12 days before I go half way around the world) then they better send someone along to make sure I'm okay. I don't mind having the support, not in the least. However when one has limited ... read more
